I make frequent backups on USB drives. I use hybrid mechanical drives 2TB and 4TB capacity. Because my systems do automatic frequent backups if I use SSDs they'd run down fairly fast for being able to write to. I have been buying Seagate and WD drives, and installing them in to USB- and USB-C type enclosures. I have 14 of these drives in operation using a USB network. Worked out very well for me. For each server I am doing 4 full system and data backups. I need the security in case something happens.

I use 2 x 4TB WD Essentials ( 1-main backup + music library/Apple i-Mac) -(1-backup of mentioned Music Library) -THEN a 3rd 5TB WD for Offsite Backup of all mentioned.

I've noticed several YouTubers recently using incorrect terminology. They say 'SSD' to describe 2.5" SATA SSDs to differentiate between those and NVMe SSDs. All are in fact SSDs. And they say 'USB 3.0' to describe USB-A to differentiate between those and USB-C. In fact both USB-A and USB-C can be USB 3.0.

I use the SABRENT USB 3.2 Type-C Tool-Free Enclosure for M.2 PCIe NVMe and SATA SSDs (EC-SNVE) . I put in my own NVMe.

The biggest problem with external drives or enclosures for one is what controller chip is used. Many times, monitoring software and even windows itself just sees the controller chip which SMART data cannot be seen ! Good one Brian The ONLY reliable smart data reporting is by CrystalDiskinfo, unlike Aida64, HWinfo, and even Windows itself ! You can have a failing drive without even knowing it !

Nice one Brian I personally use smallish HD externals for backing up my system/disk and the speed is obviously slow but nothing that cannot be left running in the background while you do other things, so the speed is not really that important to me. But it was good to see what is on offer and how some of these devices are actuated. One video that I would like to see is one about booting from an internal drive (say 1TB) if one has made a system or disk backup onto that drive.

I just bought a couple of USB 3.0 Suhsai's to keep back up images of my OS Hard Drives.
They worked fine and were cheap on Amazon. Much cheaper than buying a 300GB Flash Drive. They were $20.00 each with tax.

How timely - looking to use the knowledge from your other videos on Ventoy, using bootable iso files, and using that on an external drive for multi device backup capability.

I'm using a 2TB M.2 drive in an external enclosure with a type C connector. It's plenty fast enough for me.

I am a gamer, Though most the games I like are games around from 2000-2018. So most of them aren't really that much storage intensive. But considering they take quite bit of space on my measly 500gb disk drive for my pc. (And it didn't help that I am studying IT and has a hobby/work of being a freelancing digital artist) needless to say I need storage space.

So I bought one from a store (since quite a bit of fake storage devices are circulating in the online market of my country...) Decided to check the price for both Hdd and Ssd with a storage capacity of 1TB as a good start for now.

Ssd was around 5k php, for 500gb storage. While Hhd is atound 3k php for 1TB... Then I thought since I needlessly wanted speed for my drive because I just want the space, and to save money. I just took the Hdd (another reason is that Ssd drives are too sensitive to damages, so Hhd was the best choice for me)

Well after all efforts to organize and move my non essential drive to both my new storage device and backups of some files to 2 usbs and my cloud storage. I now finally have 300gb free space (seriously modded skyrim LE and modded fallout new vegas takes up 100gb all on their own lol)

Using My Passport Ultra myself. 5TB version. I would buy 5TB SSD, but they're just too expensive, so I can't afford it now.
