I think that a modern, professional guitar player needs to be more skilled than ever before. So many music styles making their way into the charts.

Every time Tim smiles, an angel gets a guitar…

Brilliant subtle lines. Masterclass in percussive playing and palm muting. Also love the Silver Sky.

Tim, I've been a fan of your channel for quite a while and I must say this video is one of your best, period. You and your guest truly make the case for playing the guitar parts song needs rather than taking over the song. To me, songs are little stories and to be their best, they need to be told in the best way possible. You do that so well when it comes to guitar parts and this video demonstrates that. I like the insight you have when it comes to playing for the song, you've demonstrated that countless times. I also enjoy how you bring your experience and knowledge to your videos and really help viewers not only understand the "what" you are doing, but the "why" as well. Love the gorgeous PRS guitars as well!

Long live Tim Pierce and Paul Reed Smith, the 2 biggest saviors of Guitardom in the new millenium!! It is an unspeakable to joy for me to watch this unique combination of what I believe to be the best of Guitardom in videos like this so often. God Bless them both and their families. The greatest among us are the servants of all. They both give us the magic of Christmas morning, all year long . They are like apple trees, that give their apples freely for all to enjoy so wonderfully and graciously. It is comforting for me to know that millions of aspiring guitarists don't have to buy cheap unplayable guitars and struggle on their own to get up to speed like I had to do over 50 years ago.

I am really glad I clicked on the bait because this has been a fantastic discussion on pop music production with a focus on guitar parts, but lots of universal concepts that apply to general production. Thank you!

this is such a cool video and important topic. I feel like so many guitar players play guitar and forget to play music. thanks for this Tim.

This is the first channel I have found that dives into the guitarist toolbox, tips and tricks as a recording artist. Love it!

Great answer to the question in the title. A guitar adds so much to the mix when the right players have fun with it. Awesome as usual, Tim Pierce.

I believe they matter more than ever now, with more guitar heroes and different innovations done both for the guitar and to the people of play them. As long as people continue to inspire, I believe it will always have a place in music, no matter the genre

They had better matter. I have over 100 of them that I will never part with!

I love the rubber band analogy... I've never thought of it that way... you stay tastefully active and then pull back once you have the ears' attention.. drawing the attention back to the vocals. That's absolutely brilliant, and a great example of when "less is more"... sweet!

Do guitars even matter anymore? Not nearly as much as the people playing them. If the guitar is dying, it simply means that players no longer generate interesting sounds with them. Guitars were huge in the 60's because of what people were doing with them as compared to what was the "norm" in sound. Add to this the fact that there are so many more really good players now, it becomes more and more difficult to differentiate one's self - particularly if you are not trying to be novel, but a copy of someone else.
