Sepsis and Flu

Any kind of infection, including the flu, can cause sepsis.

Heather Foster survived after developing septic shock from the flu. She shares her story, along with Dr. Karin Molander, to raise awareness.

I survived sepsis in 2022, and nearly lost my arm. I've spent my life as a musician and poured all my passion into the guitar. The thought of not being able to play anymore terrified me more than dying.
These stories are so always so difficult for me to watch, but I do it so I can hear how they pulled through. I'm elated that this lady won her battle.

I lost my wife to sepsis in 2020. We have to do a better job of becoming aware and raising awareness of sepsis. I'm doing my part; I urge others to do the same. And thank you, Dr. Molander.

i when i was 13 in december last year i got influenza A 3 days later i went into spesis shock and had mrsa and pneumonia i was in a medically induced coma for 2-3 weeks i got put on ecmo and dialysis my whole body just shut down they really didn’t think i would make it but i did i missed christmas eve and day i missed new years i had to spend my birthday in there i was in there for 5 months i had so much support from my school my family my friends the doctors and nurses and rt’s my whole community it w

The flu vaccine is about 28% effective and everytime I’ve gotten the flu vaccine I’ve gotten severely ill- got heart inflammation after my flu shot and was down for 2 months!!!
