For those new to D&D, though: every odd Rogue level you gain grants you +1d6 damage to your Sneak Attack (meaning you reach a total of +6d6 at level 11), so it's not ENTIRELY true that there's little reason to stick with the class. If you want a one-shot wonder for a martial class, sticking with Rogue is pretty good!

(Not opposed to multiclassing, quite the opposite; just saying there's an argument for going Rogue all the way.)

for me i kept astarion as an arcane trickster and am not multi classing and i find hes good at doing like everything, he can adapt to a lot of situation, need magic, use spells, need ultility like sleep, do that, need melee hes got you covered, need a sneaky bow attack, go for it. its like a jack of all trades combat playstyle that i think is a great starting point for learning combat (at least for me)

Thief rogue with dual hand crossbows + sharpshooter multiclassed into fighter or ranger is also a fun one. Less opening burst than gloomstalker assassin but really good sustained damage. 2 main attacks, one with sneak attack, and both bonus actions to fire with the +10 sharpshooter damage is very reliable dpr, plus action surge or gloomstalker opening attack still provides some burst damage

I noticed theres a lot of synergy between Berserker and Thief. Go 5 levels of Berserker to get 2nd attack, then 3 levels into rogue for Thief. Reckless attack lets to you roll with advantage, so it will proc sneak attack for extra damage, and you get another bonus action which you can use on Frenzied Strike for 4 attacks a turn, or use one of the bonus actions on a cunning action dash or jump to close distance. Not to mention you have an extra bonus action to spend Frenzy on.

I have a halfling gloomy assassin, as it happens halfling super synergizes with gloomstalker, where halflings have great racial but lack innate darkvision that gloom gives, and lightfoot gives gloom advantage on all stealth checks and gloom does all its work from stealth. They are all made for each other

For me, the best subclass to Rogue multiclass with is Way of the Shadow Monk. Level 6 you get Shadow Step and it is insanely good with Rogue. I am having a blast.

I'm liking the rogue/fighter combo, it's more of a combat rogue.

I'm running a Rogue-Thief/Warlock-Pact of the Blade multiclass and loving it! I went max Dex & Charisma for my build so great synergy with spellcasting their. Adds great spells for aiding in stealth and manipulating people as well as being able to pact weapon any great weapon I find and scale it with my charisma so I'm not limited to weapon choice. Great fun and would highly reccommend!

Arcane Trickster with a few levels in warlock is powerful. You get an invisible pet that can fly around the battlefield to assist you with sneak attacks.

Definitely think rogue lends itself well to multiclassing, however I also like a full assassin build. I have the cloak that puts you invisible when you get a kill, and sharpshooter, so my rogue is just taking one person out each turn and its just very consistent damage output. I'm also just running a high damage party, with my barbarian also having great weapon master, making three attacks a turn if she gets a kill, and then my sorcerer that can dump two fireballs each turn lol. Cleric is just there to keep everyone alive, but I usually beat a combat encounter in just a couple turns due to massive damage output. Excited for more party comp videos like you had for DOS2!

If you take the Illithid power that allows you to take actions and bonus actions interchangeable then I prefer thief with gloomstalker as this allows you to attack 4 times each turn for 3 turns, I went thief 5 for uncanny dodge, 5 gloomstalker for the extra attack and 2 fighter for action surge, you also get two fighting styles with this

This was super helpful, just hit lvl 3 hunter and was planning to going to lvl 5 before multi-classing into Rouge, but now I think I'll do 3/3, then hit 5 in hunter, then back to rouge for the rest of the levels.

A silly idea is rogue/barbarian. You don't need to use strength for reckless attack or rage attacks, so you can rage with a rapier and guarantee sneak attack with advantage.

Thanks for this. I really don't like Astarion so creating my own rogue is probably going to be my 2nd playthrough. Assassin + Gloomstalker looks really fun

I think rogue is the most underrated class in BG3. Everyone levels rogue just until lvl 3 (or 4 for ASI), but sneak attack is so goddamn strong.

I like the Rogue/Cleric. Never realized how great a selection of bonus actions the cleric has. The thief is good with everything I think, gold medal multi-classer, but with the cleric, that's a lot of versatility.

Not mentioned here but Rouge Monk is pretty insane damage late game with tavern brawler. Then again 3 levels of Rouge and anything else is pretty good in this game

Rogue hits so hard and they are very accurate since they are consistently firing from Advantage.

So everyone is aware replace the ranger for fighter (preferable battle master) is overall better due to second wind, action surge, proficiencies, more feats, and battle master can add the d8 dmg to more than one hit plus adds a affect. Gloomstalker sadly has overlapping abilities that don't help you plus the extra attack/dmg is not as good.

I get gloomstalker sounds cooler but for max-min it's weaker than battle master
