Today we continue to look at the Presonus Symphonic Orchestra Studio One expansion. Importantly, we look at the woodwinds, brass, percussion and the choirs of PSO sample library. I forgot to talk about the legatos in the first episode so we begin by taking a quick look at some of the legato patches.

Thanks!

It's very important to also play with overlappning notes when using the legato I believe. That's the main idea. From what I hear it sounds pretty smooth. Not expressional or realistic, but at least free from any weird artifacts.

Is the vibrato any good, on solo violin or flute for example? (modwheel?) Does it sound sweet under a reverb? :)

Hopefully it can be integrated within the next Notion to come ;)

Awesome! Given any choice of simple and inexpensive bundles such as Miroslav Philharmonic (which happens to be in my forbidden list, sound-wise), EWQLSO Platinum Complete 24-Bit and Vienna Smart Orchestra to name a few, Presonus's Symphonic Orchestra CAN serve up as my BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK budget orchestral library together with BBC from me, Anson From Malaysia

I know this review is several years old, but has PreSonus fixed a major bug with this sound expansion yet, and honestly if it’s still present in S1-6, I won’t be updating because it’s a major bug to my workflow. The issue is when using the key switching, and what happens after transforming a track to audio. After transforming to audio literally all of your key switches are discarded, and the sound played back throughout the entirety of the track is the default keyswitch. Because of this every articulation needed from a given sound has to be tracked individually using “single articulation” presets. A part that is supposed to be recorded in one take via key switching cannot be done, and I’ve had to break that single track up by as many as 6 additional tracks in some cases. Other’s also confirmed this bug, but it never seemed to get addressed by the developers.

Future Bass only with Bitwig services? Could you make a tutorial? It would be awesome! Thanks

Hi Mattias! I have just found your channel and I am really enjoying your content! Clear informations, concise and super helpful! I am wondering if you have done much work with choir plugins? I am looking for a really great one easy to adjust for film scores! I am currently using EastWest but would love your opinion! Thanks Aberdeen :)

Nothing wrong with the demo, but I think it is embarassing that Presonus puts out something like this in 2020 and charge for it. They should have named it “vintage orchestra” and offer it as a free download.

Presonus should stick to making what they're good at, which is just about everything besides vi.

These sound quite bad. I've heard better orchestras for free. Check out LABS.

The instruments here are just as bad as the strings etc in the previous video. Not helped by the demonstration being played on a toy keyboard by someone with no idea how the instruments should be played. As heard here, there are free VST orchestras that sound better than this! Perhaps, in more skilled hands and a keyboard better-suited to handling the articulations and expression capabilities of the various instruments, this orchestra may sound better. As played here, I would not have known what some of the instruments were supposed to be if he hadn't named them.

Thanks for doing what you do, Mattias. Quick bitwig question if I may - I've been looking to switch from Cubase to bitwig for a number of reasons like it's simple yet crazy-powerful automations, but two basic things were blocking me...1) no native vst multi-out without hacky work arounds, and 2) only single side chain inputs. Have either of these limitations been improved since bitwig V3? Perhaps the grid solves these somehow? Cheers.
