You just need to stack multiple switches on top of each other and then count down to the 3rd switch. It will be layer 3.

Great demonstration! Reminds me on an acquisition project we Recently were on and had to deploy a router on a stick method. We acquired switches with no L3. We attached it to a trunked port to get routing working until a fix (replace missing core L3 switch). Used a $30 mikrotik router configured with multiple vlan interfaces.

The only downside is that most smb switches do not support dynamic routing. If i am correct the catalyst 1300 only supports rip v2 but not ospf. HPE networking instant on only supports static routing. For dynamic routing you need minumum a catalyst 9200 / 9300 who are overkill for smb. I hope this changes in the future.
