I love how archeologists automatically assume any significant structure they find is tied to religious practices of some kind.

As a foreigner living in Japan, I too can attest to the fact that I can no longer go back to living in my home country by sole fact that bidets aren't a thing back home.

Wouldn't you want to be the fly on the wall in a company meeting with serious looking Japanese business man discussing "we should measure our employees ass holes"

There is an interesting reason why Japanese (modern toilets that is) are often heated... Unlike most US/European Japanese houses have less insulation/individual room heating/air conditioning. So even if a bedroom has a heater on during the winter, the hallway and bathroom will get very chilly. It turns out sitting on a really cold toilet spikes both heart rate and blood pressure. For most people, in particular younger people this is no big deal, however, this does cause some (most elderly people) to have a heart attack. Thus the idea of heating a toilet seat in Japan came about.... If you ever climb a Japanese mountain (Mount Takao in west Tokyo is awesome) in winter getting to sit on a warm toilet when it is freezing is incredibly relaxing. Strange but definitely true

"Going number 2 was like going to Disney land and then shitting on it" is at least in the top 3 things ever uttered by anyone.

It may sound gross to us today, but the medieval Japanese having the idea of using human stool as plant fertilizer is pretty brilliant, imo. Not just for keeping their cities clean, but economically too.

The topic of toilets have always fascinated me and I always like it when a Youtuber makes a video about how toilets worked in different eras and places

My japanese wife of thirty years bought two of these magical bidet from toto. Wash and dry! I could never imagine a life without them! Life changing

1999: While in Japan I stayed with a teacher and her family in their 9 bedroom Japanese home. The “toilet room” had 3 stalls: a western urinal, a Japanese floor toilet and a Toto bidet remote controlled toilet complete with heated seat, two warm adjustable sprays and drying air, self cleaning with all the bells and whistles! I fell in love with that toilet!

Imagining sitting on a stone on beach seeing this video. Then realising that you are sitting on poop.

3:18 we call this in German Donnerbalken (beam of thunder).
We usually made them however out of two beams with a hole cut out in the middle and put them elevated to sit on. Later, a gut was added to reduce exposure to the elements (privacy was less of a concern back then). The door always had a hole (often heart shaped) which served several purposes:
1) as a door handle
2) to let in a little light
3) ventilation

You know you've made it big when you can talk about poop in more than one video and people are actually interested.

Next thing you know it, they will add joystick on the toilet. So you can adjust the spray.

I'd say the toilet humor on this video is the best.
