The first-ever person to have a face transplant, Frenchwoman Isabelle Dinoire, has died, French doctors say. In 2005, surgeons gave her a new nose and mouth after she was disfigured by her pet dog. But heavy use of immunosuppressant drugs weakened her and she succumbed to cancer in April at the age of 49.

May she rest in peace :(  She was a brave woman. Her story is one of a kind. And a big "bravo" to the doctors who gave her a second chance.

He lady was trying to commit suicide by a drug overdose so the dog was clearly confused trying to wake her up, the dog wasn't crazy.

She was going to survive, but then she decided that she wanted the transplant and it killed her. I wouldn't blame her for wanting a new face. I would feel like a freak too if that had happened to me. She was brave, may she rest in peace.

That's the toughes part of a transpalnt, it's not the surgery but the rejection of your body to the new organ forming antibodies against it.

The doctors really did a good job on her face transplant. There is hope for people who badly need this face transplant.

Read somewhere that her face transplant didn't do too well because she refused to stop smoking.

For everyone condemning the dog -- the dog was acting on instinct, either trying to revive her with pain, or -- out of starvation -- feeding on her. Either way, it's not the dog's fault, since it's common for ALL predatory animals to act as such when their owner is dead (or in this case, seemingly dead). It was tragic all the way around, and the dog did not deserve to be put down (as I read somewhere that the dog was, in fact, put down).

One day we will be able to print human tissues but for now transplants is the best we have.
Immunosuppressive drugs sometimes have serious side effects, what a brave soul may she rest in peace!.😔 🙏

this whole story seems sketchy..What kind of drugs was she on if she didn't wake up from her dog chewing on her face?..Thats just messed up.

Her body rejected the transplant because she wouldn’t stop smoking.
