KIA PICANTO SCORES 0 STARS IN CRASH TEST

The Kia Picanto 2020-2022, produced in South Korea and equipped only with driver frontal airbag as standard was rated with zero stars, achieving 0% in the Adult Occupant box, 29% in the Child Occupant Box, 51% in the Pedestrian protection Box and 7% in the Safety Assist Box. Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are not standard. Side body and head airbags are not available even as optional. The potential double front airbag as standard would not improve the score of the model as the Adult Occupant Protection box will still score below the minimum percentage to reach even one star.

The model was tested in frontal impact, side impact, whiplash and pedestrian protection. In the frontal impact both the driver and passengers chest were coloured red (poor protection) due to the high loads and structural instability. Side impact showed poor protection to the chest bringing the points for this test to zero. Whiplash test also showed poor protection to the neck. Side pole impact was not performed as the car does not offer side head protection as standard. The Picanto does not meet United Nations regulations on Pedestrian Protection. 

Latin NCAP does not recommend to buy cars without ESC, pedestrian protection and side body and head airbags and cars of zero and one star performance.

Ive been a firefighter for 20 + years, always working at stations that attended frequent road traffic collisions. Back when i started the cars were often 10 or 20 year old at that time and they didnt hold up very well. These days i see people walking away unharmed from collisions with trees ! Its amazing really .

This particular version of the vehicle is probably intended for poorer markets, in Australia the cheapest model Picanto has a full compliment of airbags and autonomous braking even on the base model.

Few days ago I hade major car accident in Kia picanto
I was driving 90/h on right lane straight ahead
Suddenly Subaru B4 hit me in rear taillight at speed of 150km/h

My car lost wheel from that crash and was totaled!
Car spoon up on the road and ultimately hit highway seperation concrete wall with left side.
Me and my friend got out of car basically unharmed

Driver and his companion for other car also survived the crash and no major injuries as well, no broken ribs or bones not even concussion,

I don’t know what or who gives this small car 0 points on safety… but I am alive because of amazing safety of Kia picanto and work of safety engineers from Korea ..

Nowadays EuroNCAP only cares about lane departure warning, emergency braking, etc....but what happens when all those systems fail?

What's incredible is how much safer this vehicle is in respect to the ones that took "0" stars ten years ago.

In Australia, the Aus version gets 4 star (5 highest) ANCAP rating.

This car held up better than most cars tested at consumer reports. IDK about 2020 but the 3 years prior they where 3rd one year and tied for 3rd for 2 years. closest of our big three was ford at number 15 for reliability.. My wife has her second kia this one she has put 104, 000 on it and only thing that had a problem fan made a ticking sound it was fixed under warranty. As far as maintenance front and rear brake pads. Free oil changes every 5, 000 miles for as long she owns the car.

In EMEA Market is impossible to find a new production car with less than 4-6 airbags.

Being such a small car, the 4-door stucture and the roof held on so well, and the side hit as well. Really don't get why it was scored 0. On the contray, one of the brand case, the left side main bone was shrinked to the fire wall, the door shape had been changed badly, gets a 5 star ??!! What's the meaning of this crash test ?? The test should give more weight to basic cabin strength.
