The first generation of the 7 Series debuted in 1977 and lasted until 1987. It had to offer some outstanding technologies to compete with the cutting-edge Mercedes S-Class.

As soon as I saw the E38 in the movie Transporter with Jason Statham as a kid I fell in love with this model. Of these latest models the G11, before facelift, also looked great. Good proportions, aggressive front end, yet a great limousine. What happened next is an abomination.

E32 was a very handsome car especially for its age, but the E38 is just drop-dead gorgeous, it’s the best looking BMW ever made IMO, with absolutely timeless style. It looks luxurious, sporty, imposing and stately at the same time, which is hard to pull off.

They are all beautiful cars, each in their own way. I love the new boy. My favourite of all time is the E38.

The 7-series had a predecessor, the E3 (2500, 2800 "die neue Linie") that actually was the model that opened up for the attack on the Mercedes Benz S-class, and did so very well (had a 3.0S for many years). Just check the car magazines from back then. Especially the model 3.0Si was known as "the King of the Autobahn" for a reason... :P

Looking at that thumbnail, it’s the E32 that still looks the most epic to me. When that car was introduced in the late eighties, it was the best car in the world by a mile

The E65 does have controversial looks, but technologically had many world's first. World's first 6 speed auto g/box, first car to use centralised infotainment system (i-drive), which every luxury car maker followed soon after, radar based adaptive cruise control, and if I'm not mistaken, auto headlight too was pioneered by the E65. This model made such an impact back then, the W220 S class became obsolete overnight. It was only with the W221 that mercedes could finally compete with the E65 technologically. Just look at the trunk lid design of the W221, and compare it with the BMW's E65. You will know what I'm saying.

My favourite design is the e23 (the 1st one). I had one made in 1986 with facelift of the front. I would have never sold it if it didn't, after many years, reached the point where in each trip i was not sure if i would make it back home.
