Instead new PMPs should be called as Agile-PMP...👍🙏

PMI states that the PMP is the umbrella for more specific project management areas of focus, e.g. PMI-ACP. They are changing content to be more inclusive - as an umbrella should. For a well-rounded project management education/certification, inclusive of Agile, they recommend a new pm focus on the PMP. If you have been a PMP for some time or are someone who will only work in an Agile environment, you may want to focus on the PMI-ACP instead. The advantage to being a PMP with a PMI-ACP, beyond knowledge, is that the 60 required PMP PDUs are inclusive of 30 required PMI-ACP PDUs. This means every PDU you earn toward your ACP is automatically applied to your PMP.

Andrew, I am a former student of yours and aced my exam with your course four years ago. I am glad your are addressing this question. Many job board listings are asking for the PMP-ACP. My personal feelings are that everyone should obtain the traditional PMP certification as a base certification, it s a matter of time that Agile too will be superseded by another methodology. And you are correct, the new exam is 75 agile question based on the PMP-ACP ECO. On the other hand, the traditional PMP separates real project managers versus Scrum-bums who are really limiting their career opportunities. Just passing the PMP says volumes about the type of individual, they are and what they are capable of, and in themselves, a totally different category of expertise.

Many chapters and sections in the PMBoK has it's own separate PMI certificates for getting a deeper and wider knowledge on the topic, for example, Risk Management in PMP has a separate PMI certificate which is the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)®, Schedule Management has a separate certificate which is the PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)®, and so on, If we are going to talk program and portfolio management which are slightly mentioned in the PMBOK, they have their own certificates (PgMP and PfMP), so, this doesn't mean that these whole certificates are going to be killed being covered in the PMP curriculum, I think the same applies for ACP, the ACP is meant to have a wider and deeper look and knowledge into the Agile world, we can consider PMP is the main tree of knowledge which has the essential and the must-have knowledge of project management while the other certificates are the branches.
Thank you for your useful content.

Seems like ACP should still stick around for those that have the “old” PMP and want to learn agile. But for those with the new PMP, I see no need for ACP

Andrew - really glad that you addressed this. FYI - I got my Product Owner and Scrum Master certs, and thought that they were too light and not worth the money I spent.

Wanted to pursue the PMI-ACP cert, but wasn't sure of its value in the marketplace. This video was very help; thanks!

By the way, I attribute much of my ability to pass my PMP last weekend to your prep video sessions.

When I took the PMP, it was more like 75 -85 percent Agile questions.

I just passed my PMP on Saturday March 6th 2021 and now have this question since the new exam covered quite a bit of agile and hybrid/transition

I think the PMP is watered down and the PMI-ACP is a CAPM of DA certifications.

To the point video, answers my doubts.

I really think I want to get both. I am finding that leadership in my company does not realize that the PMP include more Agile and assumes the PMP job candidate isn't familiar with it.

I just got my PMP 2023, and I feel it is useless to take an additional exam (ACP) just for part of the book (pmbok) I just learned.
