The Porsche 718 Spyder RS is, in essence, a Cayman GT4 RS sans its roof. In lieu of the roof, you'll find a detachable, manually operated fabric canopy. Together, the single-layer sun shield and wind barrier weigh a mere 40.3 pounds (18.3 kg), rendering it 16.7 lbs (7.6 kg) lighter than the 718 Spyder and 36.3 lbs (16.5 kg) lighter than the 718 Boxster.

When it comes to mass, the novel 718 Spyder RS clocks in at 3,108 lbs (1,410 kg), shedding 88 lbs (40 kg) compared to the non-RS version. Barring the roof, its resemblance to the coupe sibling is striking. This final 718 boasting a combustion engine is lowered by 1.18 inches (30 mm) and perched on 20-inch forged wheels, with optional magnesium replacements available.

Porsche clarifies that the Spyder RS isn't an exact replica of the Cayman GT4 RS, as it sports unique tuning for its springs and dampers. This results in a smoother, more comfortable ride that satisfies convertible enthusiasts. The mid-engined marvel can be ordered with a Weissach Package, featuring exhaust tips inspired by the 2018 935—a homage to the legendary 935/78 Le Mans race car.

Sharing the Cayman's crown jewel, the convertible counterpart utilizes the same 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated engine borrowed from the 911 GT3. This powerhouse generates 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet (450 Newton-meters) of torque, channeled to the rear axle via a seven-speed PDK. This pairing enables a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 3.4 seconds and a 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) dash in 10.9 seconds, mirroring the Cayman GT4 RS. The Spyder RS can reach a top speed of 191 mph (308 km/h), just 4 mph (7 km/h) shy of the coupe.

Available for order in Germany with a starting price of €151,215, the Porsche 718 Spyder RS will also be offered to American customers at $160,700, plus a $1,450 delivery fee. For the ultimate 718 experience, buyers can acquire a complementary timepiece housed in a titanium case. The car's public unveiling is scheduled for the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, with deliveries slated to begin simultaneously.

With a convertible top that could be operated from within the car, like most other cars since the 80's, this would be perfect. It is truly so close to perfect, but the little bra strap fabric wings, that require getting out of the car to operate, holds it back and cheapens it. Not like fabric door pulls, or things like that, but in a different, "not good" kind of way. I would just have the top down all the time.

If this car was designed more for the road versus the track then they should’ve offered a manual option.🙄😩

As a current 718 Spyder owner the top is a joke. A deal breaker. That’s not a top. That’s an umbrella. No way you’re staying dry on a rainy day. What’s the point. Wow. What a bummer.
