I got the 6505+ combo last Christmas out of a jims music in iron mountain Michigan. Only paid $550 when i got it. Wicked little amp. Thanks glen for the suggestion! Awesome job letting ppl know this Gem I stack it with a peavey vypyr x2 on the 6534 channel and it sounds amazing!

some 15 years ago i was in a market for my first real amp and i bought B52 AT112, great american high gain all tube amp, and dirt cheap. You should check them out. Combo comes with somewhat mediocre speaker, so ppl just mod it, usually with V30... could be worth your time

I’m so done playing keep up with what’s in or whatever as far as amplification. I’ve owned some really great amps in my time. Marshal 100/100, 50/50, boogie, Fuchs, Hughes & Kettner. While the did the job, I’ve played on plenty of budget rigs that got the job done as well. I remember in 2001 having a head shit the bed last moment and picking up a beat up Randall war head combo for 300 bucks to play that night. I hung on to that solid state for over a decade, loved it to death!!!!

I run thru an old 1922 2x12 cab...it's a crazy good amp, but my speakers are crap but with the right celestrons, it's a monster!...thanks for keeping distortion alive!...Eric

They sell unbranded SLO's for between 1k and 2k if you want to save up. You buy them as kits. Rosamp, C3, Sloclone, ceriatone (working on a clone) all have good clones. C3 is a bit pricier (2k) but you dont have taxes, and maybe shipping to worry about. The kits also have eberything you would need. They are also the closest to a real SLO. Ceriatone and headfirst both have amazing options as well. For cabs, you can get some high end ones for $500, if you buy the speakers separately. I recommend sonset beach cabs, or sourmash guitar cabs (had an amazing experience with sourmash previously)

I would go for the Marshall jcm2000 tsl122. Pound for pound you can't get better. They go for dirt cheap on the used market, all valve. Made in England and no need to upgrade the speakers because it has a Marshall g12 vintage and a Marshall heritage ( two of the best oem marshall/celestion speakers) that together sounds amazing. Can't get better than a early 2000s Marshall.

I'm glad years ago I bought a 6505+ head for $500, the clean channel was fucked but new tubes fixed that (got the cheap ones $100) and I found a 6505 4x12 on fb marketplace that was rewired for $250. Overall spent $750 for a rig thats only played live once and that was for when I opened for Rest, Repose in 2018 lmao. I've been wanting to hook this thing back up again. (I did play it for practice with my other bands also before that, but only one gig playing shows is expensive andmy normal job doesnt allow it)

I have an old Marshall 2x12 cab loaded with equally old V30s so I don’t need a HB 2x12, but I did need a smaller cab for practical reasons. So I got the V30 loaded 1x12. Amazing little cab.

That's awesome advice. Those 6505+ are amazing amps, but the speakers SUCK. When you replace the speaker or turn it into a head and add a cab, it's incredibly close to the OG 5150

I was using my evh 5150iii 50 watt head and a tube gave out. I had a crate block and my buddy had the 5150

That thing sounded use it for practice and it's my back up rig.

It can be used as your normal rig if you like. I would recommend a better power section but the crate block is what I had laying around cause it was given to me.

I mean the 5150 Iconic is also really good for the money. I say that a lot but that mainly because I'm always so impressed by this damn thing. Put a Heavy Cream back in it too. Perfection.
