Cisco router ports

provides a quick and basic understanding of the various ports
on a Cisco Router. An entry-level IT, Network, or Telecom professional. would find this valuable to know before their first assignment involving Cisco.

Cisco makes up about 70% of the enterprise-grade data center connectivity equipment. If you're a IT pro, you're definitely going to encounter Cisco switches and routers.

In this video, we demonstrate with a Cisco 1700 route which has a variety of ports - Console, Aux, Ehternet, WAN, and Voice (RJ-11).

While Console, Aux, WAN, and Ethernet ports are all RJ-45, they are very different in the functionality. A common rookie mistake is to try to connect a network cable from their laptop directly into the Console port of the route.

Console ports are SERIAL connections, they require a "Cisco console cable" and Serial connection on the PC or laptop.

Likewise, WAN (Wide area Netwok) ports look much like Ethernet ports too. Again, completely different function. (unless the WAN just happens to be an Ethernet hand-off from a broadband or metro connection).

Cisco uses a color convention to help tell the ports apart
Baby Blue - Console
Yellow - Ehternet
Royal Blue - WAN
Pink - Voice

There are two other videos on another channel of mine which deal with entry-level cisco knowledge:

1. Connecting a Console cable

2. Basic Cisco router commands

What are the BRI and auxilliary ports do. I saw somewhere these two ports were mentioned too.

I have that Cisco 1700, pretty useless now because the only module besides the BRI interface you can upgrade to is a 10BaseT ....
I ended up setting up pfSense on a VM instead of upgrading to a new router for my lab...

Hello a query
I have a cisco 1721 router and the front led ok does not stop blinking, the router fan does not turn on. The router has no dram memory.
I have seen the manual and there is no error that I have, because the led ok blinks all the time, and the fan does not run, that could be the error, help me please

I'm a programmer and I'm pretty good at networking and wiring telephone/cable lines in my house. I was looking into the field of a AT&T or other telecom/isp technician.

what are the benefits? and how much would I get payed?

Thank you.

+DIY Telecom You, sir, are getting a subscriber and a 'like'. I've been looking everywhere for someone to simply explain the router interface and cable ports. Most videos are just about what routers do and not how they physically look. Thank you. Do you have similar video for switches? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
