What's the deal with nutrient ratios? Is blue light really that big of a problem when it comes to algae? Should we trust those plant deficiency charts when it comes to submersed plants? Dr. Tom Barr -- professor, specialist in plant physiology, and fellow hobbyist -- joins us on this stream to talk about some of the myths and facts about keeping healthy planted tanks.

Welcome to Wet Your Plants, a live stream to help viewers with their planted aquariums, dispel the aquarium plant myths perpetuated on social media, and encourage critical thinking in the hobby. Our focus is on optimizing plant growth while ensuring the health and well-being of your livestock. Questions encouraged, lurkers welcome, and replay crew always appreciated!

Join us Friday evenings at 8:30pm Central Time for a fun hangout with aquarium hobbyists, and Monday afternoons at 4:00pm Central Time to answer your aquatic plant questions. We're here to interact with chat, answer questions, play some games, make you laugh, and give something back to the Fishfam.

Thanks for setting this up. There was some good info up front, but I had so many more myth questions in my head that I would've asked ahead of talking about things like travel and grad school. I know, I know. Instead of critiquing I should setup my own channel and do the work :-)

I recently moved from reefing to freswater and have found planted tanks to be incredibly frustrating. There is no concise informatiom on anything and just theory like the video here. Zero practical information. With salt i knew exactly where to keep phosphate, nitrate, alk, calcium and pH levels. With this hobby i cant even get a pHd to specifically state optimum macro and micro levels. Just dump stuff in your tank and hope it works. Incredibly aggravating video.
