In this intriguing episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Neil deGrasse Tyson delves into the world of electric cars and the diverse energy sources used for charging them. He highlights how, when we plug in our electric vehicles, the electricity could be coming from a multitude of sources like hydro, solar, tidal energy, nuclear, or even fossil fuels. Tyson discusses the competition among these energy providers and how shifts in energy prices can influence which source powers our cars, all without the consumer’s awareness. Join this enlightening discussion to understand the hidden dynamics of electric car charging and the future of sustainable energy. #NeilDeGrasseTyson #JoeRogan #ElectricCars #RenewableEnergy

Joe is on a steep learning curve.

He's lucky to hang out with Neil.

My power company steals money from me. They power my neighbors house with the excess from my solar panels. Then they send me a bill

So as soon as renewable engergy becomes cheaper, it will just get used everywhere.
That is all it takes and it was said many times that it would be cheaper.

Well... make it happen! Nobody will complain. ;)

I do care, and I'm willing to pay more for clean renewable energy.

As an individual I don't think I have a choice of power company

they are not competing for me, I don't have more than 12 choose from

You can't just turn these things on or off. Commissioning and decommissioning a power station takes years. It's not a free market issue but sadly does require government intervention. That's why it's fucked

Exept it always goes the other way.
The wind doesn't always blow, the sun doesn't always shine. You need petroleum. Petroleums always been there for you. When you skinned your knee, when your dad missed your graduation. When the love of your life, abandoned you, petroleum was there.

Reject modernity, embrace liquid gold.

My power company takes power from my solar panels and pays me if my usage is lower than the output. I don't feel too guilty about charging my car.

So.. if you convert natural gas to electricity..and send that along power lines to someones house. Convert 23K volts down to ac line voltage..then down to 48 volts dc for the charger. Charge the battery all up. Then go drive..converting that chemical energy to electrical energy..then to mechanical energy to mive down the road. Wouldnt it be more efficient to just use natural gas to produce mechanical energy instead of fooling around converting energy forms 6 times? Idk. Ya do know about 70 percent of our energy is produced by natural gas right?
