If it got through 2FA, the first thing that comes to mind is that there must have been some kind of "cookie stealing" shenanigans going on. I heard Linus got hacked but didn't look into how it was done (I assumed someone was just being malicious and leaked it), so I googled it and, well, would you look at that, it was a session hijack.

I'm wondering if that's what happened here as well. If one attack worked on such a big target, that kind of attack is going to propagate and we'll see more and more of it in the days to come.

Stop opening unknown files. If you have to, use a sandboxed environment or a disconnected device you don't care about (like an old PC that you can reformat). There's a sandbox literally built into Windows 10 and 11 Pro and Enterprise. The other major kinds are free and extremely easy to set up. Stay safe, people.

I immediately recognized what was going on when I saw the stream in my feed, and was really bummed out to see that it was you guys who were targeted. I unsubbed in the moment, but made sure to keep up on how the channel was doing and resubbed as soon as I saw you guys got the channel back. It's super frustrating and scary that stuff like this can happen, even through security measures like 2FA. I'm glad you got the channel back though, and will be watching some DYKG videos to do what I can to help counteract the losses. Stay strong guys!

This was the most bizarre thing to see happen. I nearly unsubbed thinking YouTube had subscribed me to some random channel, but when I clicked through to the channel I quickly realized it was you guys and just rushed to Twitter to find out more info and I'm really glad you're all back!
