Jodie is so flawless here. Her acting is amazing. Her timing, beats, emotional resonance. Simply beautiful work.

This is the most heartbreaking scene in the film on the joy and tragedy of Perspective. Her character is torn between her scientific curiosity and it's logic. She's still not a woman of faith but she is a woman with an experience that is unique to her and her alone. She wishes more then anything that others could have had the same experience but as a scientist she must publicly concede to reason, logic and consensus.

This movie is my favorite sci-fi experience I've ever had. It is endlessly provocative, hopeful, aspirational, and beautiful. It's absolutely been a part of defining my view of existence.

I once had an out of the body experience and people try to tell me I was hallucinating. I know I wasn't. That's why this scene makes this film my favorite movie of all time.

Anyone here after the first James Webb Space Telescope image was released? Immediately made me think of this movie... exploring the relationship between science and faith and how, in the end, those who believe in what's unknown to science simply have to have faith that there is something out there that's bigger than us. That it matters, and therefore we matter.

these lines, just hearing it from her lips makes me weak and tear up. That was pure emotion right there. I showed this to my friend and he cried and said this is the best sci fi movie he has ever watched. He said this is above interstellar which I agree with. Jodie is a GOAT for playing this role

Humankind do not have answers to all questions. Just because we don't have the answer, we should not simply deny the fact that it happened.

The whole movie is a great commentary on the value of perspective. Religion, science. I loved it.

Carl Sagan is the reason I am an athiest but in a roundabout way he also gave me a newfound respect for religion, and the power of belief.

I can't get enough of this movie, i think this is Jodie's and Matthew best performances. Carl Sagan would be proud. What an amazing movie, but that scene, is just a master of actoral talent.

Occum's Razor when applied to Jodie Foster's talents as a woman of example and force, an actress and finally a producer and director of the cinema is simply put... the woman is a beast and a force to be reckoned with. Jodie Foster kicks major ass! Lol!

I love that Ann put this movie out.

She was absolutely fair to Carl's communication with us.

This movie makes you think more accurately.

HOW MANY MOVIES DO THAT?!

Thank you Ann, you did Carl a solid.

When she says “Because I can’t” that hits deep anyone who believes in science should understand this . There has to be life out there we can not be the only ones in the universe

2:24 how many times have I wished to share what I have experienced with humanity, but it is not for me to share. Only for others to seek tor not to seek their own experience. I CRY so hard in sadness that humanity at large has not had some form of experiencing their higher self, "even if for one moment". as I have had in life.
