What Is A QNAP NAS?

QNAP's Network Attached Storage(NAS) are systems that consist of one or more hard drives that are constantly connected to the internet. The QNAP becomes your backup "hub", or storage unit that stores all your important files and media such as photos, videos and music. Imagine it being your external hard drive, but rather taking it everywhere, it is placed at home and accessible for you and your family to use at anytime and anywhere.

There is no escaping it, every day we use, create, need and store data. The growth and evolution of Network Attached Storage have been a fast and more and more people in 2016 are finding the need for a NAS Server in their lives. 4-Bay NAS devices are no longer aimed at just business users and IT professionals. Now everyone and his brother wants to get their hands on a NAS solution. However, everyone’s NAS requirements are different. Some just want a cheap NAS, others are looking to keep all their media in a NAS based Plex Media Server and some have more advanced NAS ideas like running Virtual Machines and hosting hundreds of users from one location. We want to focus on QNAP NAS and the QNAP 4-Bay NAS range available to buy at .

Hi, I followed your setup instructions but whenever I test the camera I get a message unable to connect, check the camera ip port and try again, QVR allocated port 8899 and RTSP port 554 by default any thoughts please?

Bought a Qnap that happened to be preconfigured with two Seagate Seahawk drives for surveillance. I do not need to use them for that but would like to use them for regular media storage, Plex stuff. How can ai configure them for that?

Hello and thank you for the tutorial - I am having an issue connecting my eufyCam 2 Pro to my QNAP (QVR Pro or Surveillance Station) the MFG is not listed and the Generac Model does not connect - Yes the camera does support RTSP NAS but these cameras come with a HUB (single IP Addr.)

Great video. Ty I have learnt so much from this series!! Please, can you confirm if it is possible to utilise an external QNAP connected HDD as the dedicated Surveillance/NVR volume? e.g. an external USB 2, 3 or eSata connected HDD as a volume for surveillance taking any pressure off the QNAP internal raid volume allowing its maximum use for other data.

Hey thanks for the video. Are you able to use the qnap software to connect to a camera and record footage to the qnap, that's on your wireless network and not through USB ? I don't want to run wires around the house but simply record the footage from the cam to the NAS through wireless. Also is there any webcams you recommend that will allow this ? Cheers.... great video.

I have Qnap 231P and tried to use Surveillance Station but something delete all the time my records files. I have low disk space left about 40GB free, but this should happen. my "record_nvr" folder all the time is gone after few minutes.

Would be interested in a discussion on using Scryped/Docker or Homebridge for HomeKit video support. 😊

QVR Pro is completely useless on a QNAP TS-453A, even with 8GB RAM. Is puts the CPU between 50% and 80% while monitoring just 3 IP camera's.

Hi, love the video.
Are you able to automatically send the camera to a preset when a schedule starts without needing motion detection? I wish to swap from Car Park to Balcony at separate times and as the camera will be pointing away from the required area each time motion detection won't work?
