As a mountaineer, backcountry skier and trail runner, the vertical is a dream come true. It is simply the best real-time dashboard available for outdoor athletes on the move and gets the job done superbly. The display is big and bright and, a bit of vanity here, it looks great on my wrist. Battery life allows me to go on multi-day routes (or forget to charge it) without any concern. As the review suggest, it is not an eToy or general purpose fitness watch. If you need a lots of graphs, analysis and fancy/refined features, buy a Garmin. A few notes, you should use it with a standalone HR monitor and the O2 monitor is, as the reviewer suggests, pretty useless. Finally, for me, the band is extremely comfortable.

Where I have landed this watch as it stands today provides everything I need. Great GPS accuracy, long battery life, and HR accuracy is fine. I do pair with HR strap for those runs I want to ensure ultimate accuracy. The design and screen brightness are excellent. The lug does leave an indention on my wrist. It does not bother me or cause any uncomfortableness but it is an annoyance more than anything. I do believe Suunto will continue developing on the software side of things which is where the catch up needs to happen. Overall excellent piece of hardware.

Great review! Love that it’s an honest review. It’s definitely a beautiful watch. However I feel that I’d be throwing money away buying Suunto watches. The other problem is that Suunto has little resale value here in the States. If I find a Suunto Vertical second hand and at a good price I may try it.

Thank you...great review. Sunnto was my first love in the late nineties...with Vector and Core as cool ABC watches and then the massive X9 GPS watch. But with the Core Suunto started to have a lot of QC issues and I had to send almost every Core I owned back to the company. I think somewhere during the last 25-30 years they dropped the ball (for me at least with not the greatest product line) and I am now deeply invested in the Garmin eco-system since the Fenix 2 came out. But I still like the Suunto design and hope for the brand that they do well and survive.☺

Thank you for the detailed and honest review!
In my country, Romania, the Suunto Vertical it's the same price as the Coros Apex 2 Pro and the Garmin Forerunner 265.

Thanx for the honest review!
Suunto recommends wearing the watch quite high on the forearm - at least one finger above the wrist bone). This provides a better HR reading and prevents redness like on your wrist.

Thanks for covering the data analysis also! I really hope Suunto would improve data analysis for runners.

I've had this watch for a week now. No issue here with the case hitting bones. And also no heart rate issue after wearing it with a nylon strap (some spikes with the original strap...), have you tried with any other strap? I Also like the training data (and for example that in the calendar view, you get bigger "exerciseball" when the training was harder, the colours are different for different sports and not just like a dull garmin green boxes on every exercise) and the fact it can show your training progress for several years if you want to. I Agree that hey could be much better in the sleeptracking (stages, hrv, editing data, ending the sleep tracking in the morning, it misses quite often when I actually woke up if for example had to wake for a while for a baby). Also maybe they could go further with sports data like remaining recovery times also in the app, race predictions and smaller overall things like multiple alarms. Overall I have enjoyed using the watch and I'm glad you also found some positives also 😅 thanks for the video. 👊🏻

I can agree with you about the optical hr being a disappointment mine doesn’t work so well either. Also agree for pulse ox however this is a waste for me in all watches I just turn it off. However your other issues with things like not enough watch faces i couldn’t care less about things like this. I think the build quality is so far in front of other brands is not emphasised enough. You did mention it but seriously Fenix like a toy compared to this.

i have the same discomfort wearing it on that wrist bone...so i pull it a little higher..looks weird but dont slip down luckily...maybe wearing it on the other arm might change comfort? dont know...gonna try it no matter if a male is supposed to wear a watch on the left arm! hehe

Good review. Speaking of the Grit X Pro. How do the polar pacer pro and grit x pro heart rate accuracy compare to Garmin. I know those models are older as Polar hasn't came out with anything new but was curious

Between this or Coros Apex 2 pro
For heart rate accuracy
Which one is better?
Also can you compare Apex 2 pro vs chest strap ?

I stoped watching at the moment you said that back is plastic. It is not. It is stainless steel or grade 5 titanium, based on version. If tre rest is so poor as the begining....

Does anyone have issues with the underside of the Vertical Watch Strap Lugs digging into their wrist/arm? If yes, has anyone found a positive solution to this situation?

Lets wait for that Garmin Fenix 7 Pro and Epix 2 Pro with new Elevate 5.0 sensor. I hope its gonna be alot faster than 4.0.

This watch is crap. The software seems like if comes from a 90's Motorola phone. After a week using it I returned it. Just makes me furious that a 600€ watch can't even have a customised watch face. Don't buy it, you are just paying money for nothing
