Alot of us dont go this hard on our multi’s but it’s Great to see a video where the tool gets taken all the way through its normal threshold and to the point of breaking that way we can gauge if its up to our level of activity -when you say you cant recommend it DONT FORGET to shout out the one you would recommend - considering how hard you go YOU DEF SHOULD FILM A SERIES OF YOU GOING HARD ON ALL THE TOP BRANDS and actually seeing where they break down -i know alot of us would watch that = first episode title = WHAT IT TAKES TO BREAK A LEATHERMAN FREE = Youtube GOLD i promise !!

Thanks for the update. It sucks that you've had so many issues. I haven't had a lot of these issues but I think the reason is that I use mine for much lighter tasks than you do. Still a great, honest review! Loved the video!

Sounds like most of your issues are the fact that it needs to be tightened up. All of the alignment, tools hitting other things, the offset of the handles are all usually an issue with adjustment of the main àxis screws. I appreciate the review because between the softness of the steel and the crack are unforgivable issues. I appreciate the time you took to run this tool through it's paces (because I will also) and doing the review. Thanks man.

I liked the video, but I think your expectations for a multitool are high in proprtion to the kind of jobs and lifestyle you lead. You are a athletic, and very active doing high energy, sometimes dangerous, and intense pursuits. I have been a professional mechanic for 30 years and even the best multitool (Leatherman Wave 2nd gen.) that I've ever used on a daily basis doesn't compare with my dedicated tools. I have a pair of "cobra" pliers that are almost 2 feet long and I have exerted hundreds of pounds of pressure on them (and I know they would take thousands of pounds). This is just one of the hundreds of dedicated tools I used when working on semi-trucks, combines, field tractors, etc. in my life. My leatherman was not up to most jobs on those types of machines. I loved the video and you have a great style and excellent vocabulary and presentation skills, but I think given your active, and high energy lifestyle even a leatherman surge would come up seriously short on a lot of things.

SOG used to be excellent in quality some 30 years ago. I've been using my old SOG POWER PLIER since 1993. What an excellent tool!
Nowadays, however, the new SOG products are totally crappy.

Good video. We have to keep in mind that none multitool is not a substitute of a dedicated tool.

TIGHTEN YOUR PIVOT SCREWS. You're dismissing the tool for being loose, but the pivot screws take standard allen keys to adjust. Just tighten them and it'll be right back to as it was.

I think a lot of these issues would have been prevented if you had used loctite early on? The more a tool like this is allowed to flex, the more it will warp. You obviously put it through its paces and you are right to expect it to hold up...

I just bought a #Leatherman leather sheath because of you. I ordered a SOG tool that's coming with a nylon sheath, but I want something good.

Maxpedition single sheath. The closure flap is adjustable and will accept most multi tools and edc type flashlights.

Havnt had these issues but I try to keep my knives and multi tools oiled and I do a once a week clean and maintenance on them which includes checking screws, oiling pivots, and clean with toothpicks and napkins so far only knife that has rusted on me is a gerber pocket square.

There is one company for multi tools and that’s Leatherman. I beat the heck out of my Surge and my Charge. I’ve had both tools for years and they still haven’t broke on me. I broke the SOG in one day

SOG multitools can deploy the pliers one handed straight out of the box. My Powerlock has been smoother than a Leatherman Free series since I got it. I wish they made the Poweraccess in the USA. It's such a cool design but the chinese steel it's built from is just so inferior. It's pretty much pot metal

Must have got a bad sheath, I have had only 1 issue with that sheath. When i first opened it from the box, the snap on the back was very weak. I called SOG and had not only a new sheath in the mail 2 days later, but they also sent an additional bit kit with it! All of the issues you mention do not reflect on either of the sheaths I have for mine. Maybe call them and they will get you taken care of?
