Can confirm this works on pfSense 2.6 using the Zone ID for the username, and the Edit Zone DNS API token - the global key is not necessary. The Zone ID can be obtained from the Overview page of the domain, it is listed to the right, located within the API section.

For anyone like me that came here after pausing @WunderTech's OpenVPN video when he began talking about DDNS, you will need to disable Proxy status in Cloudflare for your OpenVPN client to connect. As soon as I disabled proxy, it was able to connect immediately. There may be ways around this, but my brief google-foo didn't turn up anything promising. Thank you for the great videos. :)

Yep, makes life so much easier. I used several docker containers on my Synology for a few of my domains before I went pfsense about 7 or 8 months ago.

I left the username field blank on PFSense and put the key in the password slot, after that it began working. Thank you!

But now for the Client Export Utility, I don't see the Custom configuration (DuckDNS) in the droplist "Host Name Resolution". I try many possibilities and found nothing worked. I configure No-IP serice and it appear in thge dropdown list. But I would like to use DuckDNS in the Client Export Utility.

My pfSense behind Comcast/Xfinity Modem/Router using double NAT. What ports do I need to forward on Comcast modem? I tried 53, 80 & 443 and I still to not get green check on the DDNS configuration in pfSense, even after reboot. Thanks

Thanks! It sucks that the low level tokens don't work. I wonder if that's a pfsense or cloudflare issue. I remember following a tutorial a long time ago for the token but it never worked.

As of today 7/25/23 - Custom API tokens still do not work. I had to use Global token and Cloudflare email account....not username.
