I am so happy to see this video of Calvin. I played with him at Central 75-78. All the pictures of Central and the gym brought back memories. I was the recipient of all those great passes from Calvin. Back then he was "Worldy".
I remember that Gratz game.Glad we won it for him.
Along with Mike "Jaws"Majors, George "Hondo" Dougherty,
Ira Katurin, and Al Taylor we brought Central basketball back.

I grew up in North Philly and went to Ben Franklin during Calvin's years at Central. He was one of the ball players in Philly whose game I admired during that time. Nice to come across this video about him.

This is Thomas Fontaine's grandson, Thomas the V. I see that you were a great ball handler and scorer, but what I like the most is that you were a great student also and you got a scholarship to Harvard University. My goal in life is to be a great student/athlete also.

I saw Calvin when I attended Central, Class of '81. He was definitely one of the best to come out of Philly. He made North Philly proud, especially when he got the Harvard scholarship!

I played with Calvin at Central. We were the starting backcourt although he was a junior and I was a senior. Calvin was a complete player and a special talent. He was a natural leader on and off the court. Despite a calm demeanor he was fiercely competitive. A great talent but more importantly a great guy. A true Philly guy with a big heart and tough as nails.

I played with Calvin on the Liberty Saints. He always played against players older than him when he was younger knew he would be special back then.

I am a Central grad who also greatly enjoyed watching Calvin play on the ball court. Superb ball handler and play maker. No need to mention his capable shooting.

I graduated from Central High in 1982 and had the pleasure of watching Calvin play his senior year of basketball. He truly was amazing! His handle was super smooth. Only the great Isaiah Thomas was handle was as good as Calvin's. I followed his career in college and saw some of his games when Harvard played Penn at the Palestra. He was my basketball idol.

I grew up with Calvin. We were in the same class in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grade. We attended the same schools until college. I have for many years told people that I have never seen anyone handle the ball as well as Calvin. Calvin was Chris Paul before there was a Chris Paul. He was the archetype of a scoring point guard, averaging 20 points and close to 10 assists for a high school team that rarely cracked 50 points a game. Just today I told my youngest son, after his coach spoke to him about ball handling drills at home, how every play date with Calvin in 3rd grade began with he and I in his basement. Calvin would do the complete set of Pete Maravich ball handling drills before we could begin our daily chess match. In 1979, the Spectrum hosted a high school all star game that pitted the Philly All Stars from Sonny Hill against NY's best. NYC's team included Danny Bruins who had committed to Syracuse and Sidney Green who later played for the NY Knicks. Calvin was the game's MVP. Many Philly high school basketball fans consider Calvin the best ball handler to ever come out of the City. I would include the State of Pennsylvania, and the Northeast. Our middle school, J.R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School, also included the late great Joe Washington, who starred at Overbrook when they were the best high school team in the nation. Thanks to Calvin's on court exploits, I was selected to First Team All City High School Journalism Team by the Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer. Calvin's on court domination allowed me to drop an easy 2500 word article each game, 500 of which would make it into the Centralizer, our high school newspaper. He was a groomsman at my wedding and a brother for life. I am so excited to see him honored in this way.
