Metro systems are a defining feature in many world class cities. When visiting a big city with an extensive metro system, you are usually just a short walk from a metro station where you can quickly board a train and then exit at almost any other point in the city where you are another short walk from your destination. Metro systems usually run either underground or elevated, and are the most efficient way at quickly moving large groups of people across cities.

Despite this, extensive metro systems aren’t all that common in the US. There are only a few US cities that have metro systems, and even less when factoring how extensive their coverage is. There are also some big cities in the US that completely lack metro systems. Why is that? In this video, we’ll be taking a look at why most US cities don’t have metro systems.

Cleveland has It's Metro station within walking distance of it's AMTRAK station, unfortunately the AMTRAK station is open only in the middle of the night and service on the RTA Waterfront Line is suspended until further notice.

I blame car corporations. Henry Ford had a lot influence on the work force and the economy. And he’s the reason most jobs close on the weekends.

All mayors of the top 50 biggest cities in the US should come together in a conference and demand their federal a state governments help fund underground metro systems. Also need to enact green belts around their cities. Urban sprawl costs their too much money.

if you actually look at chicagos metro system in depth, its not very extensive (barely any connections between lines) & basically unusable for the needs of most residents

New York City does NOT have 26 lines; it has 9 distinct Colored Lines (and three shuttles) with 26 service patterns.

This list seems a bit limited. What about Portland, OR? They have a fantastic light rail and street car network.

By metro system you're talking about subways. So I have to give you a not good review because a metro system is any transit that is built for the greater metro
