Neo is Falling Behind in His Development… (Hearing Loss)
We finally got an update on Neo's Speech progress and unfortunately we did not get the news that we had hoped for. One thing that we have learned throughout Neo's Hearing Loss journey is that what may have worked for one kid, may not work for another. We have done everything we possibly could since getting Neo's profound hearing loss diagnosis when he was born, we did early intervention, countless speech therapy sessions, and have tried our best to see what works best for Neo as he grows up. Although his listening and spoken language program is perfect for Neo, the distance has made it challenging for the rest of the family. We wish we could move closer to Neo's school, but we know that this would be a very difficult transition for Abella. When Neo was first implanted with Cochlear implants, we knew that it would be a long journey ahead. As we continue to support Neo and his speech development, we know that we will have to make life changing decisions not just for Neo, but for our family as a whole.

Hey! My son was born completely and profoundly deaf on his left side and I resonate so much with having a race with speech and making sure he doesn’t fall behind. He was recently implanted and we’re waiting for activation. But what I would suggest is get a in home teacher once a week and stay home possibly one or two days out of the week for learning and speech. Don’t worry you’re not failing him. From one parent of a hard of hearing child to another, you got this❤️ neo is smart, neo is capable, and most of all neo is loved.

From a mom with a child that’s deaf, has 2 cochlear implants - you guys are doing amazing! You do have a long road ahead, you’ll have your up and downs but you have to trust the process. I didn’t find out until he was almost 2 that he has deaf, it’s a lot of work, a lot of time, but don’t be so hard on your self. He was main streamed since kinder, and he just got principal honor roll in all honor classes for the first time ever 🙌🏻. I promise it will get easier! Wish I can talk to you guys! Keep you in my prayer 🙏🏻

Niko, you may have given Neo hearing loss but you also have given him life and when I watch your vlogs he looks so happy and that’s because of you, that is the important thing. You keep the CAN family together, remember that. You gave him everything.

I hope you have an amazing future,
Porter
(I was the one who got a shout out in the “Abellas first day of homeschool” vlog)

I know that this must be hard for you guys and I hurt for your struggle. I am a future Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher and current interpreter. This is so common for children who are being taught only through the oral method. I understand the choices that you have made, but it is so important to make sure that he has language that is fully accessible to him before he turns 5. I know this is so hard. My heart goes out to you. Neo truly may need American Sign Language and it will only aid his ability to gain speech. Much love! You all are doing amazing and loving him so well!! ❤🤟🏻

Cristal and Niko you are definitely not failing as parents. From your videos I can see how attentive and lioving you are with Neo and Abella. Sometimes we parents can be very critical of ourselves. You are amazing parents! I love your family and love your video's. 😍🙏🙏❤❤

I went to speech therapist from 3 years old until i was 17 and im now 49 and i look back and i thank god my parents did this for me. Also depending on his hearing loss might be best to keep him in sign language school and keep him in speech therapy but if his hearing loss isnt that bad then keep him oral hard of hearing school and speech therapy, i pray for you guys and good luck with whatever your decision is ❤
