Why does eu4 end in 1821? An interesting question that I've done a lot of research for. The answers entails eu4 nations such as France and Britain . Napoleon is also included in the video and this also looks at the Napoleonic era. Paradox interactive is also looked into why they choose that date specifically.

Because 1+8 equals 9, 2+1 equals 3, and 9/3 equals 3, Victoria 3 confirmed.

1821 is also the year the greek revolution happened. So the game starts in 1444 when byzantium is dying and ends when a new independent greek state starts

Pfft everyone knows the game ends in 1600

February 7 1821 people first set foot on Antarctica, so Paradox ends eu4 just before to not have to add another continent

I always assumed it was because Napoleon died in 1821, even though it of course had no real relevance to the geopolitical state of Europe. I actually think 1789/91/93 would be a more appropriate end date, since EUIV mechanics are largely obsolete by the mid 18th century. Also love the ''Songs of the New World'' in the background.

From what I've read, I believe the specific date of January 3rd is only for mechanical reasons, and the game is just meant to end at the beginning of the year 1821, for all the reasons mentioned in the video. Ending Jan 3rd gives the game time to process the last monthly tick and autosave before the game stops, so you can reload your save to see the world you ended up with, take screenshots, etc.

“Paradox didn’t want EU4 and Victoria 2 to overlap”

I image the reason it originally ended in the 1790s was because they thought people would then play March of The Eagles for the Napoleonic Era. Then March of The Eagles was terrible and they lengthened it to fit with Victoria II and cover Napoleon.

I’m here early. My bet is the death of Napoleon in 1821

Most people probably don't even know it ends in 1821, I don't think most people's campaigns get past 1700

My best guess for january 3 1821 being the ending is to align with Napoleon's death, but that may 5 would be harder to remember than january 1, and they moved it 2 days up so that players could pause at the end

I believe that Napoleon's loading image is for players that own the Emperor DLC, or at least was added after its release

The end date is just shortly before the war of Greek independence began. So the game starts with a Greek society ending, and ends with the rebels of a new Greek society beginning.

The end date should have been December 31, 1935. That at least fixes weird 15 year void between EU4 and Victoria 2.

Tbh, ending the game on september 15th 1830 would be nice. This is the date of the Liverpool and Manchester railway's opening.

The railway is the symbol of the industrial revolution, which is the central theme of Victoria II. This would mean players would get an early glimpse of the industrial revolution ending before the coronation of Queen Victoria and also give an opportunity for Paradox to make a save converter from EUIV to any future Victoria game

i read somewhere that 1821 is the end year because that is the year a lot of former colonies got independence because the society changed.
