Hand portion sizes are to help you estimate how much is on your plate, rather than tell you how much you should eat. Your needs will change based off of your activity, goals, height and weight and therefore you need to have the portions tailored to your needs.
1 fist size=1c
1 deck of card/palm = 2.5-3oz meat
1 tip of the thumb = 1tsp
1 thumb length = 1tbsp.
