Well obviously they also think they can sell a lot more iPhone 11s by reducing the price. Suppose they make $500 profit margin per phone, and sold 10 phones last year, for $5000 total. This year, they'll make $450 but expect to sell at least 12 iPhones this year because of the price reduction, to make $5400 instead. It's basic demand relationship with price.

I agree with a lot of what you said in this video, they're trying to get more people to flock to this device because of the lower price tag, but I don't think a 1.3 billion will be the full "hit". I feel that since the price is lower, more people will buy the 11 vs the XR. So if they hypothetically gain 1million more buyers for the iphone 11 vs the XR, the 1.3 billion dollar hit would be more like 900 million since the value of each additional iphone 11 (700 minus ~350 for cost of manufacturing ) = ~350.
