What's behind Russia's booming economy? | DW News

The St Petersburg International Economic Forum - once known as the Russian Davos - comes to a close today. The three-day event was attended by representatives from 130 nations, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. It was also a sign that Russia's economy is growing - despite a tranche of Western sanctions. The International Monetary Fund say its economy will grow over three percent this year.

When western industries pulled out of Russia, local businesses came in and filled the void. Russia is now producing what it needs and no longer relying on imports as much as they used to. Russia's growth driver is now it's manufacturing and industries, not commodities. Also, Russian money previously kept abroad has started to be repatriated because of fear of confiscation. Western arrogance will really be its undoing. Same way they looked down on China all these years only for them to be surpassed. Keep up the same energy and let's see how you will be in 20 years.

It is a real pity that the supposedly "Russian expert" is doing what John Kirby and Blinking are good at, negative spin for the county they don't like.

When asked why the many sanctions didn't do the jobs they are supposed to do, apparently "...all sanctions take time to show their effectiveness". Well, two years and counting, do we have 10 years to see the impacts of sanctions on Russia?

Then he carried on his negative spin, claiming that Russia is selling oil and gas to China and India, and they are the main buyers. Everyone knows except this "Russian Expert" that India has been racking in the money by refining Russian oil, and selling it to...wait for it...the very countries which imposed the sanctions. Such is the irony. Put in simple term, these countries are breaking their own sanctions. According to the global cop, USA, anyone who breaks the sanctions wold be punished. But wait...there are more surprises...the global cop also breaks its own sanctions as well.

Here is some interesting fact from PBS....
***Between January and September of this year, , Global Witness found, between the U.S. imported 30 million barrels of fuel from refineries running on Russian oil. In total, that crude arrived in at least 13 cities in seven states.***

So while I admire the steadfastness of the "Russian Expert" who won't deviate from negative spins, facts are hard to dispel. Is this "Russian expert" on the White House payroll?
