Following Suleiman the Magnificent, the power of the Ottoman Sultans waned and this led to the Viziers and the Women of the Harem effectively ruling the country. Accordingly, this period is called the Sultanate of Women as Princess Mihrimah and Harem members like Nurbanu, Safiye, and Kösem, all women from diverse parts of the empire rose to dominate court politics for 90 years. See how this period remained prosperous despite the lack of capable sultans.
