KYKEON - The Ancient Greek potion from The Iliad & Odyssey

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it here but it was on the main video about Kykeon.

Essentially the person said Kykeon was for injured warriors not necessarily because it had magical healing properties but because it was a calorie bomb that would've given the body energy to recover from wounds. The barley and wine absorb relatively quickly and provide sugars while the cheese has slow burning fats. I'm paraphrasing heavily so I urge everyone to research the topic for themselves too! I may be forgetting/mixing up details! I can't speak on where the legends of its healing properties come from.

Kykeon was also consumed by the participants at a famous ceremony called Eleusinian mysteries. The ingredients were wine, barley and herbs and it is said that it caused them to have hallucinations, probably because the barley had a fungus.

They were sailors who had probably only been eating dried meat and some type of biscuit with the occasional fish.
Wine and honey have had medicinal values for eons with antioxidants and vitamin C while the barley fibre and the cheese calcium.

In antiquity wine was made as a concentrate as a syrup that was then diluted with water so if you want to be authentic, you probably want to use a sweeter wine because being more sugar than alcohol. It was probably very sweet.
