Is that a 10mm quicklink? These are super overkill and break at like 60kN, so it breaking at 14kN means it is at 1/4th of it strength. Scary. But also kinda impressive.

For people saying "yeah, that's still good enough" and "it's still as strong as your just think what that would do to your rope as it slides over all those sharp edges!!!! Nice way to destroy a brand new rope!

Is it weird that the second I saw the super rust I thought wow thats exactly how things would look on the northern coast of CA. Super cool seeing Evan on the channel I met him a few times when I lived up in Humboldt super humble guy. He has some great knowledge in bolting and also just being one of the only people discovering and bolting the frontier of the Northern CA coast.

FYI welded materials will rust at the point of fusion if not heat treated.

I’m a retired old fart and was never a climber but I’ve used quite a few quick links over the years and I’ve got a question. Would marine rated 316 stainless be OK for climbing use ? I switched to only buying them decades ago after cutting old nasty ones.
By the way, I just love watching you break stuff !

Genuine question, but if we're not hitting 8kN on a whipper and the link held up stronger than what my belay loop is rated for, what does "Can ALMOST take a whipper" mean?

Are we saying it's too close for comfort? Or is the shock force going to make that drastic of a difference?

Wouldn’t a rope break before or right about the same as that quick link? Definitely safe enough for a whipper….
