If Dave Rubin ever had an original thought, it'd be lonely

I'm obviously in the minority in thinking this was an excellent analysis of the downfall of Dave Rubin. The "hit piece" jab is nothing but a thin pejorative to avoid talking about the how obviously foolish Dave is and how he says lots of whack shit that makes no sense at all. I guess they think it is just morally wrong to write a profile piece on a public intellectual (?), or more likely they are people for whom the 'anti-woke' perspective has become an all encompassing ideology. Rubin himself has fallen victim to this mindset, and he was also never that insightful and is basically just a grifter. If anything this article was kind. I would say the thing this guy didn't do was spell out how dumb Dave Rubin is. Dave is a total ditz



I real hit piece would read like this:

"Dave Rubin is a D tier media personality who makes shallow, rightward leaning political content. Dave Rubin is not particularly right wing himself, in fact he has few deep convictions. Instead, Dave goes along with whatever will make him more popular. A few years ago Dave found an audience among some on the right, mostly the boring right, the one that is obsessed with SJWs and gets upset and evasive when you point out how fucking terrible the republicans are. Dave ended up getting captured by this audience and now spends his days giving softball interviews to right wing internet provocateurs and trolls. The main trait of note with Dave is his stupidity. Despite claiming to be a "Man of Ideas" Dave is actually a total moron who frequently makes factually inaccurate statements, and missuses common words and phrases, often to comedic effect. Dave's content has become more embattled and whiny over the years, as the number of fans and guests who would associate with him has dwindled. This has led Dave to form ever more sycophantic relationship with his fanbase and with more popular right wing commentators. He has been known to tolerate disrespect directly to his face and continue to act in a sympathetic manner."

This interview was marginally better than the Quillette article, which was indeed a hit piece. I was dreadfully disappointed in that article and briefly considered ending my membership.

Listened on Spotify couple weeks back. Fortunately somewhere in the middle they clarified that it was not a hit piece, up until that point I was pretty convinced that it was.

The absolute worst part of this interview is when these two straight men question how gay men deal with the conflict of their sexuality coming out of the 90’s and the struggle to self actualize. Basically both are saying “so weird to struggle with this”. For the most part the article that Anderson wrote is fair, but the interview comes off as catty drama and a bit tone deaf to the fact. “So weird right? (Flips hair) teeheee.”
