me and some buddies found this out yesterday by accident and yes ps5 is join friend or quickplay with friends, if their lobby is full it will just put you in your ship, the only thing is if everyone starts doing it, idk if its going to start messing up and not letting people do it anymore but tried it with everyone i play with and it worked every time

The real problem is that the game doesn't log you out if you are idle like any other online game... I see people being idle for an entire day and obviously they're taking the space of some one who is actively trying to play

On ps5 if you’re in a party chat send game invitation through that and it pulls your friends through the que and into the game

On PS5 if you have a friend playing helldivers and are in their ship the PS5 home UI should prompt you to join them. How ever you should contact them ahead of time and make sure they have a spot open in their squad.
