Come join me on a new docu-series that explores identity, racial tensions in the South during the 20th century, and the unique experiences of those who historically called Louisiana home.
My name is Danielle Romero, and all my life, I have romanticized Louisiana.
Growing up in New York, it represented a place where I could step back the sepia-toned life of my great grandmother, Lola Perot, who died before I was born.
Now, it was time to go back to Louisiana--although I had no idea what the truth would be or what questions to ask---who was Lola really? Who were we?

Epigenetics is real. Imagine what Afro descendants from the Americas descendants carry 😮Dr. Joy de gruey has done lots of writing about this Epigenetics in her book "Post traumatic slave disorder." We carry the joy and pain from our ancestors. We also can carry the cruelty and violence. We need to unpack this if we are to truly heal. Racism and trauma is deeper than just socialization. We need to be honest about the extent of what this social construct has created on the molecular level 😮

In the African American community, there's a familiar saying.... " I am my Ancestors wildest dream." It's one reason why we keep practicing generational ancestral veneration that carry over from our TraditionalAfrican spirituality. Deja veaux and Deja reve are popular experiences in New Orleans culture. "We've been here before" is a thin line. On the flip side, there is the factor of post-traumatic slave syndrome.

Genetic memory makes sense, it's how you can visit a place you haven't ever been, yet you feel you are in a familiar and comfortable place.

Insects and animals have collective or ancestral memories that help them survive like what plants to eat or how to construct hives, nests, dams, and dens. What makes us think we are so removed from the natural world?

I heard a scientist on a podcast mention a study in which mice were given a shock at a certain point in a maze over and over again. The offspring of those mice produced significant stress responses when they got to the same point in the maze for 3 generations, without ever having been shocked.

My Mom, who as passed would tell me I would say phrases that her Dad used. She would be so amazed. She had 7 children, I was the only one who he passed a trait to, I'm the 5th child.

Biblically speaking, I know this is true. The Bible speaks of the actions of the ancestors could reach up to the 10th generation. Blessings and curses.

As a #FBA descendant of Americas chattel slavery ...I suspect he is correct on generational memorys and it is often marginalized.

I had a recurring nightmare on being a soldier in. a bloody war literally feeling my own self there but waking and being in my bed. Long story short I discovered later in life my Dads father was a Marine deployed on landing craft in the south pacific islands in WW2. Freaking crazy stuff out here

My family on Mother’s side was from Silver City, New Mexico. I moved to New Mexico in 2007 and I joking said I was moving my DNA home. I felt such a deep connection to New Mexico, I actually felt homesick for a place I’d never lived. I still live here in Albuquerque near the Sandia Mountains. My father’s side are from Italy, Italians.

I read that people who receive organ transplants have memories and habits of the donor.
What some call reincarnation could easily be genetic memory.

Very interesting! I've heard some sociologist discuss this in regards to the descendants of slaves and their neuron affects to stress, adversity etc... I'll have to explore this more. Didn't realize that the channel started yesterday! I'll pop and over an subscribe. Thanks!

My first reaction was to scoff at it. But then I though about my own life. I came from generations of tribal fishermen. I however grew up in the NY hood. I don't get seasick. Neither do my cousins born in the states. You put me on a boat and I'm at home. My cousins the same. Our ancestors sold their food products in markets. They learned to speak other languages. Language learning is easy for us. This maybe cultural and not genetic, I don't know. Love your curiosity. Also love the southwest. Especially the grand canyon area.

Thank you! My ancestors were indigenous bison hunters, Spanish Conquistadors, Slaves and Slave Holders. Creole, French trappers, Missionaries and Pilgrims (literally on the Mayflower). Soldiers from the French-Dutch Indian War, the Trail of Tears, English Aristocracy, sailors, wagon masters and teamsters. I just retired from 48 years in trucking. My great, great, great grandfather laid out the platte map for Jefferson City, Cole County, MO and was Zerelda Cole's Uncle. I love your work and i have benefitted from relatives who spent a lot of money for genealogical research. Some of them spent the rest of their lives regretting it, lol! Travelling across the US in a semi I have had deja vu numerous occasions. When I had to find an address for delivery or pickup, it was always easy to find my way around. Anywhere! LA, SF, NYC, Portland, Phoenix, Atlanta. My mom said I had a gift from my Dad's side. I hate being stuck in one place!

I believe there is something to this. I think some call it cellular memory and it's the reason some are drawn to certain places, careers, certain habits, , phobias etc. I'll look at sometimes look at photos of ancestors who lived in 1800s and feel I know them. on Finding Your Roots LL Cool J was drawn to boxing then learned the grandpa he never met was a boxing champion.

Some traditional Choctaw, especially reconnecting Choctaw find peace among the ancestral Mounds located in Mississippi and Alabama. It's a inherited ancestral consciousness and a spiritual connection, and familiarity from oral history - this is positive inherited ancestral memories that brings joy. I'm sure many Indigenous People around the world can feel this about their respective ancestral land or sacred sites.✌🏼😎✌🏼

Interesting...But i am not sold yet on this theory...But instinctual fears and cautions...I do agree with. I have studied for many years about Epigenetic research imprinting, and still in study. To each his/her own i guess...Peace

Epigenecits is real. Look at the episodes of High blood pressure and other Vascular issues in ADOS COMMUNITY here in this Country. EVEN WHEN WE HAVE THE SAME DIET AND LIFESTYLE AS OTHER American Desendants😮
