This cat is in constant pain with infected gums and mouth, and bad teeth. Even the food you give him hurts him as much as it helps. If you have to sedate this cat long enough to get him cleaned up and treated, you need to do that first. Keeping him for weeks in a small cage, when he has always been free, and feeding him but not freeing him from pain is never going to tame him. He cannot understand!

Stomatitis is very painful. That alone would make him defensive. Being in a cage with no escape just kept the bad memories open.
Could he be given an oral sedative in his food so he can be treated by a vet? Relieving his pain may allow him to accept you faster.
Wishing you all the luck possible with Snake Cat. I'm sure he would love to get out of that cage soon.

Jefe was given to me after previous people hit him with a broom. He only learned to calm when I let him nest under blankets for a few months. Then we started our connection. I hope this kitty's fight or flight calms and your patience persists. Fight or flight reactions take time to heal. Thank you for caring for him.

He seems to be extremely depressed. If he’s never had love, it may take a long time for him to hunger for affection. You are wonderfully patient with him; eventually you may be able to help him realize there are other ways to touch him than beating him. It breaks my heart he’s never known love. God bless you.

I have rescued cats for so many years and have seen some of the worst and saddest of abused cats, this really breaks my heart, but to see the people who really care and willing to have the patience to help one of them heal helps my heart heal from the heartbreak I have had to witness. I thank you for helping that little fella-he looks just like a female cat I rescued 17 years ago that was going to be put down as a nuisance and turned out to be one of the sweetest loving cats I ever had.
