Very impressed with this kid for being 17. Very composed, well spoken. If people are mad, get mad at the AMA for the rule, not a kid that is simply smarter than the rest of them for knowing the rules.

It's my opinion that Yamaha was wetting their pants because they had works factory parts in that bike. They admitted it when they told Brennan he couldn't get parts for it. This rule was drawn up to stop factories from doing this very thing. Great channel Tyler.

the claim rule is specifically in place for this situation. It should stop armatures from running pro gear. The "It took us too long and too much money" is exactly why the claim rule is there.

this guy needs everyones support. This rule helps keep the spirit and fairness of the sport alive.

Tim cotter and Brian should have never had that kid in a room himself making him feel bad for doing what he was doing, Yamaha U.S. should have never threatened the Canadian local shop, and Star shouldn’t have sent a pro spec factory bike to an amateur race period. Everyone in this list should be ashamed of themselves. Hayden and Schofield just want to ride, the adults here acted freaking despicably. I ride Yamaha and support the team through Merch. And buying bikes etc, and this is disgusting.

If this is true it's a big deal. Claiming is a common rule in motorsports, and it's there for a good reason. AMA should be investigating this.

I am so confused. Who WOULDNT want to own a completely FACTORY Star racing Yamaha bike for a measly $17k? I’m guessing most people commenting don’t ride. I would easily pay that for one of their bikes and tear it down just to look at all the little things they have done to it

The fact that they acted so scared and paranoid made it so obvious what was going on.

If this went down like Brandon says there needs to be an investigation. Can't have people being threatened if it's in the rules you can claim a bike.

If I was the CEO of any other factory team I would invite this kid over for a weekend and let him ride all the factory bikes. Let him bring the gopro and he can even put the video up on YouTube. Imagine the good publicity you would get from that. The kid has serious balls by trying to claim deegans bike and he didnt even do anything wrong.

The claim rule is good and serves a purpose but this situation shows that it definitely needs to be amended. For example, anybody making a claim should be free to remain anonymous if they choose. There should be no outside interference allowed to happen. You make the claim, lay down the cash, the bike gets tagged/impounded/etc, then the claimant should be free to pick the bike up at a reasonable location and in a manner that helps prevent all of the outside interests from playing their games.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. AMA needs to investigate it. This is downright disgusting.

The whole point of the rule is to keep the machinery relatively equal and magnify the rider talent. If Star racing wants to give Deegan an unfair advantage by giving him a factory bike, then they need to suffer the consequences. I wish Brennan would have went through with the purchase.

Seems to me the kid should have never been approached by anybody other than AMA officials if the rules were followed. This event shows the integrity from everyone from the Deegans to the AMA. I can foresee legal implications from this deal, and there should be. If Yamaha, Brian Deegan, Star, and everybody involved wants to make this right this kid should be on the same spec bike that he claimed with zero hours. Don't bring 50k engines to a damn Amateur event then threaten a 17 year old kid.

Yamaha handled this Poorly, there are lots of things they could have offered that would have made them look like they're not bad guys. Threatening a dealership's franchise is not cool.

I can’t believe the ama actually let this kid be threatened into giving up on the claim

In the cycling world we call it "mechanical doping". Whoever talked with the young man without a parent or legal guardian present should be held legally liable, fined and penalized, and the AMA office staff should be reprimanded. Right or wrong, he's a minor. In Norcal you can't go past the high schools front desk without a security officer escort. Can you say "coercion"?

All I can say is that if the AMA have such a rule they should help the people trying to follow it. knowing full well it's going to cause a shit fight. Maybe penalize factory teams/owners for any push back or intimidation.

I am a lifelong Yamaha rider and after this ordeal I have lost a lot of respect for the company. Brennan followed the rules and for Yamaha to threaten him is insane. Deegan was riding a factory bike which shouldn't have happened and he was busted. The bike should be in Canada right now but they put the pressure on him and he had to withdraw the deal. Now I learned that Brennan lost his sponsorship which is completely unfair. Yamaha threatened his sponsor. This whole deal is crazy and unfair.

Their actions about this guy claiming the bike clearly shows that the bike was not a legal bike. I think I would hire an attorney and take every one of the people involved from the team, Yamaha, and the sponsor to court. They was threatening to ruin this kids career plus his sponsors business. This should not be allowed to happen.
