It’s not surprising. We knew they were there, because we’ve snagged dead ones while fishing. We simply hadn’t gotten any footage of one there that was alive before. Divers and fisherman can tell you the Gulf of Mexico is home to some extremely aggressive squid. The squid (not this giant kind) that are very common there have been known to rip diving masks off, etc and are responsible for quite a few deaths.

I love how it's 2021 and cameras are more advanced than ever but when there's a new discovery of something every camera becomes locked in 144p

The Humboldt squid is the squid to fear in that region. They are big squids that have "hooks" on their suckers/tentacles. It's rare, but they have attacked people.
