The Virtual Magician's trick is actually pretty simple. There are not more then five of each color. First you tell which color your word was and then when you have to select the box with your word in it, there's only one word that originally was the color you selected in there.

For the magic

The first step divides all of the letters and numbers into 5 groups (one for each color).
Five new groups are then created, with one item from each group in the first step added to each.
When you click on the box with your word or number in it, this is the only other step required to narrow it down.
Your item is then placed underneath whichever box you click first :)

I haven't paid them, but the "virtual magic trick" is pretty easy I think. the second to last selection organize the colors from the beginning differently, so you are basically already telling the program which number you chose.
