How Does a Learning Experience Platform Differ From an LMS?

Janne Hietala, Chief Visionary Officer at Valamis, helps to crystallize the fundamental difference between traditional learning management systems (LMS) and modern learning experience platforms (LXP).

According to Hietala, traditional learning platforms are based on so-called top-down learning that is centered on the needs of the organization. Learning Experience Platform, on the other hand, uses bottom-up learning that sets the learner in the center of learning and this way delivers better engagement.

A good learning platform essentially combines these two approaches and is able to deliver both top-down and bottom-up learning.
