The History of Perfume

Perfume came a long way before Chanel N°5. These days, many people dab on a touch of perfume or cologne every morning, but perfume in the past was a luxury item associated with deities. Egyptians even called perfume the sweat of the sun god, and Romans believed perfume connected them to the divine. In truth, however, perfume history isn't all roses.

I love how Pliny was everywhere, ready to talk shit about any subject. He's truly the father of the internet.

My mother bought perfume in Egypt during WW2 made from pure oils with no alcohol, it’s in a blue bottle with a rubber stopper (not silicone) with a real silver cap and label. The perfume is still as good today in 2022 as it was when she bought it. Best thing you only need the smallest drop and it last for days on the skin even after bathing.💯👍💕🇦🇺

I’m extremely shocked you didn’t mention Somalia or Yemen and how they were well known for Frankincense. Also the Arabs were famous for their oils and perfumes.

"Bury me in my smell hat!" 😂 OMG! It's the narrator's sense of humor and the excellent content that makes me come back for more & more! The snark that is conveyed is amazing! 😁 Keep it up, y'all! Be safe and continue to bring us our "Weird History!"

Sisi of Hungary was gorgeous and Catherine Di Medici is known to be highly tactful and intelligent. So perfumes have enticed royal women for long. It's really sad and tragic how Napoleon's demise may have been due to perfumes.

Apparently one modern perfume Pour Monsieur by Chanel is said to be based on cologne smells loved by Napoleon.

Man, that's something. Fascinating insight on the history of perfume. Great story as always by Weird History.

Actually, the Egyptians refered to their perfume as “sweat of the sun god” because the way they used it was to wear it on their heads in the form of large cone of scented wax which would obviously melt throughout the day & release the fragrance.
