Ever slapped a label on someone because you perceived them a certain way? Or maybe you’ve been the one labeled? In this powerful, revealing and unexpectedly humorous talk, New York Emmy-nominated journalist Lisa Mateo unveils the one subtle mindset shift we can make to stop the judgement. A NY Emmy Award nominated reporter, anchor & TV host with 20 years broadcast experience. Lisa began her career in TV as a production assistant for the PIX11 Morning News, where she grew to fill roles as a writer, producer, reporter and anchor. Throughout her 18 years at WPIX she also wrote, produced and hosted a number of ½ hour specials, including "Island in Crisis," where she traveled to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Lisa moved on from local news to the national stage as a reporter for CBS News Newspath and anchor for CBS News Radio.
When she’s not reporting on the day’s top stories or dining with local celebrities on the television series Celebrity Taste Makers, Lisa enjoys feeding her passion for health and wellness as a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, as well as energizing Fortune 500 companies, universities and smaller organizations as a motivational speaker.

I am pretty judgmental but when I’ve analyzed it, I realize it comes from my parents. They often have comments about everyone and everything. But I don’t blame them. It’s still my responsibility to change and improve. I realize I still have the feelings but stop myself before saying anything and I analyze my thoughts. But I want to get to the point where that’s not my first reaction, if that makes sense.

Im here because i realize i judge people when I'm hurt or my boundaries are being imposed upon. Its like a quick lash out. Day to day i dont judge. But this judgment is with my family and i need to purify my heart so i can show up more lovingly❤

I felt this deeply, thank you for being vulnerable, it’s not easy in the world we live in, but you are powerful in that vulnerability in empowering others to heal. My coping mechanism is food, and through my journey and your guidance I’ve been able to fight against it and for my health and the well-being of my kids. Thank you so much Lisa, God bless you always.

People who are quick to judge, defines more about you than the person you're judging.

The message is to try to understand peoples histories to understand the present and know how to deal with it. Always a relevant question that people often want to avoid. The answers may not excuse reality, but they’re a start to possibly framing how we want to change and react.

Learning all about myself and how others work. I feel like this is such essential learning. We deal with people our whole life. Making money seems so superficial when the main goal is to spend the time understanding who you are and who you could become, that’s such a genuine goal

I do not remeber any traumatic experience, though I have the most judgmental brain in the universe. And the biggest ego

I am grateful for this talk. I will start asking that question. I struggle with self-judgment for years. That critical voice in me also affected how I see others. I had been silently judging people for their actions on social media. But now, I know better. "WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?" is the question I'll start asking right now.

I grew up with a schizophrenic mother and it made me very tired, depressed, nervous, secretive, and socially awkward as a child. Some of my teachers judged me because they thought I was lazy.

I’ve come to the conclusion… if it has nothing to do with directly… I give it no thought. I don’t want to understand what happened to someone or try to figure out their past… truly it doesn’t matter. People are going to do what they want regardless of what you say… so don’t speak on anything until your opinion is asked and even then keep it short and concise.

I’m personally a Christian, and my family told me that religious people are the most judgmental people on planet earth. Genuinely, I want to not judge people.

Came here to try and stop being so judgemental, but I ended up just judging the heavy breathing into the mic.
