Good review on a great bang for your buck saw! As you said, if you aren't Timber Falling 8 hours a day, you don't need a high end Logging Saw. I have run Husqvarna XP Saws, J Reds, etc, for decades, but for a good property management Saw, this is a great investment. Mine has been flawless out of the box.

Great review. Usually just hear people trashing anything that’s not the absolute top tier. I grew up with Stihls, Husky’s and Poulans. I only need a saw for occasional use. This seems to be just fine.

I have the 42/18 Poulan pro and I love it. I've never once ran pump fuel in it. From the the very first start I've ran True-fuel. It in my opinion, is an awesome saw for the price I paid. I bought it from my place of employment, Harbor freight. It was $219 but I got my 20% employee discount so I got a hella good deal and a hella great saw. It's perfect for my needs

Husqvarna is Swedish for Poulan. Husqvarna emblems and part numbers
should be found on closer inspection. The bars are narrow at the tip to
reduce kickback but that results in greater wear on the tip sprocket for
the chain running a quicker turn around the smaller corner that is there
at the narrow tip, particularly when running the chain fairly tight as is
often done when clearing brush to help keep the chain from being
derailed from the bar by twigs or vines. So keep the tip greased and
try to not use too much chain tension to extend the life of the bar.
Always have to gripe about chains that are not an even multiple of
4 drive links so that all cutters are alternating pairs. When the saw
is not running the choke lever should be pulled out to middle fast idle
detent that will release to normal idle when the throttle trigger is pulled.
Leaving the throttle butterfly cracked open at the fast idle detent when
the engine is off will allow the fuel vapors to escape more easily and
the saw is less prone to flooding that may appear when restarting.
The fast idle detent is your friend when restarting and is the middle
detent on the choke lever.

Couple points. I've had 5020 for 8 yrs. Even use it for some milling. Still runs like new. One little quirk with their OEM spec- the 20" bar takes a 70 DL chain vice the common 72 DL for 20". Accepts std. "small Husqy" K095 mount bars. The Poulan brothers pronounced their family name like "Poland" without the "d". Why would anyone buy a stihl when they could get a Dolmar? Much better value IMO. And you can get an IPL, and parts online, where stihl wants to restrict you to a dealer, the better to extract cash.

Great video Canmore. I have heard others point out the spark gap issue and your recommendation about the packaged fuel is a huge piece of advice. You are the first that has actually come up with the gap recommendation. Thank you so much for speaking to this product

I have a 2150 Poulan and I love it. Just trying to find something with more power with out spending a arm and leg

As others have said, there are Husqvarna logos on most of the internal parts of that saw. Not surprising since Husky owns Poulan. This saw is basically a black and yellow Husqvarna 445 (minus a few bells and whistles such as adjustable oiler).

Doesn't Husqvarna make Poulan as well?

Thanks. I got a PP5020AV at an auction, got it running and want to maintain it properly.

Very good video, but you forgot one important part. These's budget saws live and die on what quality fuel you put in them and how you store them with fuel in the tank and lines. I have a 3314 woodshark from several years ago and it still runs like a champ. I ran a fuel stabilizer in it when I couldn't get non ethanol and stored it tank dry in the off seasons I didn't use it.

You're right about spark plug gap...I have the same saw...definite value IMHO

There's just something special about this saw. I have one and it's amazing. Also, I've ran quite a few Stihls, and they seem more finicky than this saw.

Or. You could just adjust the carburetor like it needs to be anyhow I do believe those take a 21 spline driver
Temperature elevation all affect amount of fuel required

This review I stumbled on say spark plug gap should be 0.30? I found thru Google it said 0.25…. Next time it won’t start after refueling and sharpening in the field, I’ll try it… and leave an up dated comment. Thank you for the posting!

Super easy to tune, maintain, clean and repair. Love em!
Problem is most people run em and ruin em. You can not just run em and store them. If that's your lifestyle, go buy the 500-1000 dollar saw made in Europe brands.

Also good carb adjuster is a cheap bic pen with the roller tip and ink removed. Heat it up a little and push over splines if it is tight.

If poulan is as bad as they were saying why they so many around, I had one exactly like this in the video it work great for me, the only problem is not much tree to cut I used only 1-3 times a year and it start right up everytime with 2-3 pull. You need to know your equipment before use it, if it doesn't work then it could be something wrong to prevent from get injury, just double check make sure it work as in order as it should and shouldn't be a problem at all. Like I said you have to know your equipment before use it

I've rarely found the spark plug gap being an issue unless someone has fooled with it. More often than not the owner will buy any plug to fit whatever not knowing the damage that can cause. Poulan has a very bad air filter system. You'll see dirt inside the air box with little use & that's something most owners never check. Any saw has its problems but the AF problem has been there for years.
