Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic had his visa revoked for a second time on January 14, 2022, just three days before he is due to compete in the Australian Open. Everyone at the tournament, including players and spectators, is required to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Djokovic was initially detained by the Australian Border Force when officers rejected his vaccination medical exemption. He was released after four nights in hotel detention, following a judge’s ruling, only to land in hot water again.

Regardless of status and wealthiness, one should not avoid the laws.

How come he cannot get the message? He is not welcome without vaccination, just like everyone elee. NO SPECIAL TREATMENT. Where is Tennis Australia and WTA? They should have advised players to get vaccination as well as respect and follow the laws of host countries they are playing in.

My brother wanted to come home for Christmas. He lives in Japan, Japan closed borders for foreigners without permanent residence in response to omicron. If he came home, he wouldn’t be able to get back to Japan where he has lived for over 11 years. My brother is vaccinated, real Pfizer vaccine.

Djokavick must feel very privileged. I bet there are many Tennis players without his fame and money who couldn’t get in to the Tournament.

It wouldn't have been a problem if he didn't advertise his exemption. I'm sure other ppl with means have done the same. Now it's all political. He's being made an example of and politicians will make a show of upholding the law. Nothing will happen to whoever granted the exemption in the 1st place.

Imagine feeling that privileged enough to ignore one of the strictest biosecurity nation rule

Send him back, I don't know why he's any exception to the law.

Johnny Depp was crying foul when Aus biosecurity dept threatened to euthanize his dogs when he smuggled them into Australia. The govt stood its ground.. the govt is not going to change its stance now either. Novak is not getting his visa back..proud of this country for putting safety first.

He should've been deported on the get go, he practiced on court, no point trying to “protect” the border (0:32). I think it's also the government mistake, not just from Djokovic's side. He couldn't play in AO for next 3 years, but he will prevail I guess, he's a tough guy.

Djokovic was COVID positive and knowingly went to an interview without telling anyone. That should’ve been immediate deportation.

Australia counted 150, 000 new cases a day. Major failure of the Aussie government. What difference would one more make?
