Few things you missed. You can further reinforce fires by splitting quartered logs in half and adding them to fires. Also, you don't need to cook meat to put it on the drying rack. Just slap raw meat on there and when it dries it'll be the same quality.

Hotfix just dropped and they added a 1-9 hotkey fix, just mouse over things in inventory and then press 1-9 to assign. Also you can cut logs into 4ths, then halve them creating firewood, two chunks of that can be added to campfires to make them burn even longer.

If you get surprised by cannibals while carrying wood, throw it at them. It can cause significant damage and stun them momentarily

2 tips that changed everything for me:
1: you can mouseover a weapon/tool in your inventory and press buttons 1 to 0, this way you hotkey it to the assigned number
2: you can use ziplines to transport wood, it will always go in the direction youre facing. bonus points if you line up the landing with wood storage, it will fill it automatically (atleast like 4 storages recommended because theres a little bit of rng involved, also aim the zipline to the side for the landing part so it shoots the logs further)

Nice tip for those getting lost with the GPS map. Moss grows on the north side of the trees. If you don't know which direction you are going, just look at the moss and adjust your heading accordingly

One of the nicest things about that multi-player loot tip is that if one of you are maxed out of let's say MRE's. If you don't need to eat it, once you try to grab it and it flies out of your inventory it now exists for the other players who can loot or eat it as needed.

If you and your buddy skin mutants at the same time, you can both get the creepy armor off him. Just time it right, so long as someone's still in the animation.

I switched my inventory key from I to TAB (on PC). It makes life so much easier.

A little correction to the drying rack. The food doesn’t need to be cooked for it to become dry food. Also if the meat has spoiled you could cook it and it’s consumable again

A dummy question perhaps, but I really do wonder. Is it really necessary to create a base? I have only started the game, I am in the 4th day and I haven't created a base yet. Honestly, I didn't find the need to. I am using the basic camps for saving and sleeping, gathering food and water whenever I need to, and I mostly explore the map. I don't attack the cannibals, and for the time being, they don't attack me either. They provoke me, but I remain "friendly" for now. I guess this will not last long but I wonder : What will "make" me to build a base if I stick to this gameplay loop?

Another great tip: If you fighting fingers, aim for the legs first. They'll go down on their knees and they won't fight back for a few seconds, it saves your batteries and stun gun ammo. I found that the Speer is the best way to do that.
Now that we have hotkeys, it's easy to jab them with a spear in the leg and switch to an axe or any other weapon.

I played this game for 36 hours now and what I have learned is: Use the mutant skin as armor. Its by far the strongest and you just dont have to worry about getting more of it since after some days, mutants will attack your base. This is pretty much an endless resource of armor and you dont have to spend anything else because you dont have to craft it.
Also... get those recommended items at the start of your game. Especially the modern axe. It is really strong and safed my life multiple times.
And, if you want to protect your base with a wall and sharpen sticks, make sure to make two rows of sticks because the enemys are likely to jump over the first row. And if you want to be really unfair, you can set a row of sticks right behind the wall and when you sharpen it with your axe, the sharpen top will "bug" through the wall and causing damage to any enemy who wants to damage the wall.

Game is pretty fun so far...only thing I hate is how my buddy hosts the server so I can ONLY play when he is on. We have pretty opposite schedules for the most part.

1 thing about virginia, give her your gun, save the game, and load it back to refresh the loot and get another gun for you. she can shoot and help you defend the base, and you might need her at the end for achievement, wont work if she dies.

If you use the zipline to transport your logs to your base, put log holders near where the logs drop off. it's the same as listed above with throwing the logs, they'll still go into the storage slot if it's nearby

If you need to make foundations but only have short pieces of logs, you can stack them by planting on in the ground and adding a cut-off piece to the top until you get the height you want and then build the foundation from that

Someone likely has mentioned this already, but you can now assign hotkeys to items. Makes a huge difference.

One tip is also to quickly loot the cannibal campsites by hitting the boxes with rock or axe to get items rather than with E key and taking extra time w/ animation 😂 also recommend to craft same recipe in larger patches to get the animation go faster
