MacBook Air M2 Slow SSD Speed 256GB, Thermal Throttling and Benchmarks

MacBook Air M2 Base Model has an issue - very SLOW SSD performance - 2 times slow than even the base MacBook Air M1, which makes MacBook Air M2 slower under heavier loads and multitasking when it runs out of RAM and starts to use SWAP memory, which happens quiet often to be honest. So in todays video we will have a look at MacBook Air M2 benchmarks under light usage and single task as well as under heavy loads and multitasking to see how bad the impact of slow SSD on MacBook Air M2 is compared to MacBook Air M1. Also we'll have a look at thermal throttling of M2 MacBook Air and try to decide is it worth it to buy MacBook Air M2 over M1 MacBook Air or even M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 inch. Enjoy watching!

What are your thoughts on this move from Apple? I'm very sad to be honest...

Apple are greedy. 1.5k for this? 14” M1 Pro is a way better deal.

Well, you said it yourself. If you're a casual user who just surfs the web, maybye works in Outlook, Word, Excel, watches some Youtube, listens to some Spotify, etc. it's great upgrade. The awesome new form factor, lighter, bigger/brighter screen, magsafe, better webcam, etc. I think make it worth it for casual users. If you're not a casual user and you're doing a lot of video editing you should probably be looking at the Pro.

Now someone is telling hard facts. Great video. 8/256gb configuration is cheating. It's actually very sad for a lot of people.

The base model really should have been 512 Gb. Not only because of the speed of the drive, but because 256 Gb is barely usable at this day and age.

Seriously? You say it's disappointing because you think everyone in the world is a video editor and we care about having the fastest chip in the world? The m2 air will be best selling

M1 is better selling or M2 price drops

Interesting video. It’s always good listening to different points of views/reviews. My M1 Air (256g/16 ram) is still going strong. It’s still fast and responsive. I use it for more than browsing. I edit photos and make slideshows. It hasn’t overheated or slowed down.
Upgrading to the M2 Air won’t make sense in my case . I’d probably moving on to a Pro in the future.

Nothing new here, no value added from al the fuss about the ssd that is getting a lot of traffic mileage for bloggers, if you are doing more than browsing the net, buy a larger SSD or M1 version, period

I struggle with this too. But I’m realising that the M2 Air is all about quality of life and the pleasure of owning something “nice”. Actual raw performance (or any noticeable improved performance from M1), really seems to be last thing 99% of these folks are worried about. I guess it would make sense if I only did spreadsheets and email. And on that level, if you are happy to pay extra for pretty things, people seem to love it.

If you upgrade from a Mac older than M1, better to jump to this machine than MBA M1. It's hard to resist the return of MagSafe, new color options, better camera and audio, and new design. Not to mention the longevity issue as we still don't know when MBA M1 will not be supported by Apple. In the case of 2013 MBA (like mine), it didn't have the latest OS since last year, that means 8 years. Based on this scenario, if you get 2022 MBA you would have 2 additional years than the M1. But, if your concern is budget, you're a classic design lover, or really care about SSD speed, the M1 version is still a very good choice. Whether it's a bad or good move, only time will tell

Which of these two is better for a university use (take notes, watching videos, using excel and other stuff)?:
-MBA with 512 of SSD and 8gb of RAM
- MBA with 256 gb of SSD (with the storage issue) and 16 go of RAM
Considering that I would like to keep this MacBook for at least 5-6 years

I think I’m just gonna buy the mbp 14 because I’m not gonna wait for the config I want and as soon as you spec it up it’s 1600 for like a 512 and 16 gb ram upgrade f that

some of the few reviewers with balls.
why can't people give an honest review nowadays?

Incremental update and if you upgrade ssd or ram the pricing logic pushes you up to the M1 pro 14" which gives you way more for your money. Meanwhile, they keep the wedge design m1 air around with a large profit margin for them using the old chassis. It's corporate recession marketing to keep them profiting. I went with the m1 air and saved $300 and I have zero fomo for the m2. Also midnight black will chip and wear faster anyways.

They did that on purpose to make people pay more and hate this game, so disappointed and lost my trust on Apple products, time to switch for me …

which is better macbook air m2? 16/256 or 8/512?

No one mentions how the slow SSD will affect Parallels users that must also use Windows. The VM on the SSD is constantly accessed, and this 256gb MBA will be very noticeable. I am keeping my M1 MBA and returning the M2 because $200 for the 16gb ram was enough, I am not spending another $200 for faster SSD
