Using recently developed MRI techniques that can precisely target a small area in the brain, doctors are able to use High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to provide targeted treatments for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. In our first Science Café of 2021, we learned how this leading-edge technology – the only one of its kind in Texas – has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and is changing the landscape in treating the brain.

Speakers: Richard B. Dewey, Jr., M.D., Professor of Neurology and Director, Clinical Center for Movement Disorders and Bhavya R. Shah, M.D., Assistant Professor of Radiology and Neurosurgery

Thank you for this video regarding HIFU. I lived in the Philippines. I was diagnosed of XDP (X Chromosome Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism) and looking at this new treatment by HIFU.
