With falling sales and revenue, despite many promotions and marketing campaigns, McDonald's is undoubtedly struggling right now, leading many to worry that this might be the slow - but nonetheless the beginning of the end of the golden arch empire.

I think there's an indirect consequence of the higher prices where customers start comparing your product to more expensive competitors.

They started to think that their product was more upscale than reality.

If your food is about the same cost as a sit-down restaurant, why wouldn't consumers choose the restaurant for better quality/service

Living in Japan where it's barely changed in price, I can't believe the prices elsewhere. It's fast food, not high dining.

Who would've thought charging ridiculously high prices for ridiculously low quality food would cause you to lose customers

They assumed their "brand" added a higher value than their products actually warrant. When you make it the same costs as going to a real restaurant with higher quality and larger variety of food and you get where McDonald's is

A meal for 2 should not cost over $30!

McDonald's is almost as expensive as going to a nicer burger place. Why would I ever go to McDonald's when I can get MUCH better food for maybe 20% more.

They violated the Holy Trinity of any service based industry where one normally expects to be able to choose only two out of the three available options. Good, Cheap or Fast. McDonald's may be fast, but it is no longer cheap or good, hence its implosion.

1. It serves unhealthy food
2. It serves tasteless food
3. That unhealthy and tasteless food is not cheap

Let us be honest: it is a net benefit for humanity that McDonald's is declining.

How about two reasons: Crap food; Too expensive

Stopped going because I'm pissed off that my fries are never as full as they used to be

Too expensive. They have jacked up their prices too much. Doubled in some cases. No longer a cheap meal.

In Belgium, I can order a great quality burger in a brasserie for the same price as a low quality no service McDo. So, why should I go there ?

It comes down to cost, quality and speed.

In my town there is a chicken shop next to the McDonald’s, a fresh chicken burger with chips and a drink is around £5. It’s ready in around 5 mins and is hot and fresh.

I can go into McDonald’s, pay £7+ for a burger, chips and drink of vastly inferior quality, wait in a dirty and crowded restaurant for around 10 minutes.

It just makes no sense anymore.

It’s no longer the cheap option. If a meal costs almost as much as five guys then there’s a clear winner there.

Trying to charge Hardee's prices while offering smaller portions and lower quality than they had 5 years ago.

Their food is unhealthy, nothing organic, low quantity, and with crappy service. And yet, they expect you to pay them as if their some high quantity gourmet restaurant. What a laugh.

McDonald's prices far outpaced inflation. They just assumed people would keep buying it no matter how high they set the prices. Honestly, the decline is 100% earned.

Boycotts have absolutely nothing to do with it. It's all about McDonald's trying to charge sit down restaurant prices for mediocre quality fast food.

Expensive plastic buns. No innovative new burgers. Few veggie and vegan options. Deals and coupons make items still too expensive. No wonder why MK is failing business
