What happens when you take a 1997 Miata NA 1.8L, completely revamp the suspension, brakes, and drivetrain, and then install a Flyin' Miata turbocharger to nearly double the output to about 200whp?

Picked up my 1990 for $2500 ;) no rust, no ac, no power steering. Only thing actually wrong was a rusted gas tank, which wasn’t too bad since since I did the diff anyways. Running 169 whp on wastegate pressure waiting for my EBC

I just put on the same kit. It completely changes the car. Even in the carb legal configuration it puts down about 160-170 wheel and it's insanely fun. Just ordered a standalone and injectors and I hope to get over 200 wheel.

You can still find low mileage RX-8 R3 for under $10k if you're patient. I see 2-3 pop up every year, in my sparsly populated area, with less than 100, 000km. The fuel mileage is comparable to a turbo Miata (20-25mpg hwy), the RX-8 has a great chassis, and it has back seats. It has a power - to - weight ratio similar to a BRZ/ FRS. Maintenance is normal as long as you don't neglect it.

I bought my Miata for a grand about 3 months ago not running and got it running rough in 2 weeks, now with putting about another grand into it it runs and drives smooth

If you live in the desert, get an old Impreza.
Ej22e’s (the phase1) is easily turbo’d for under 2.5k.
I did a 95 Impreza ej22e coupe with a remanufactured 150$ Amazon td04.
It’s the most fun I’ve ever had when driving around the arroyos and desert roads.
Also it’s pretty quick. 200hp in a 2600 lb awd car.

Had a '95 NA miata for $200 with 200k miles and overheated engine 7 years ago. Replaced with a used $800 stock engine myself and it was amazing. Got a '06 NC 80k miles for $5, 500 last year, good value and interior size. Traded it in for a new 2020 miata. For value I would say get the NC! Great platform.

Super funny because this is the exact year of my miata and literally the exact same plan I have for the car, flyin miata kit and all.

I picked up my 1996 NA 4 years ago for 8, 900 it had 53k miles on it. Now it’s at 97k miles and I’m seeing bone stock NAs with over 120k miles sell for over 10k

I have seen this video a few times and it's one of my favorite reviews. How would you compare the Xida vs the Ohlins on the NB1 you recently tested.

What exactly was clanking inside the cabin when going over the larger bumps in the road?

Modern chassis is just superior honestly.. Ive had my na8 for 8 years ($2k for clean 1.8, torsen, ac/p.s) and its all setup minus power. Stripped out to sub 2200 lbs. Soo many sacrifices for performance (its uncomfortable, loud, etc) in order to hang with a confident driver in say a modern brz or ND miata. It drives great but you have to know what you're doing. I feel like modern chassis just feels more stable in every aspect and inspire confidence at speeds even in stock form. With the same amount of sacrifice or setup work put into a modern chassis it would outperform the NA no doubt. Its possible to find salvage modern sports cars in auctions that arent totally destroyed for sub 10k if you're building a track only machine or something. With the price of older cars increasing i think its more optimum to invest in a newer chassis at this point. But the older cars are a totally different experience and that alone is worth it to me

Would a K24 be too tall for the Miata's engine bay? Maybe harder to install but sourcing a used motor would be similar money - don't know about the kit price though. I'd love to see a track comparison between a turbo and K-swapped one. (Edit) On second thought K-swap probably much more expensive, so this a good cost effective upgrade.

What do you or the owner think about Konig wheels in general? I really like these wheels to replace my Enkei RPF01. Good light weight wheel, but I'm not crazy about it's looks. How much do these weigh per wheel (no tire)?
