I think it's easier to remember the following rule: when moving right hand, place right foot. When moving left hand, place left foot.

I've been trying my best to utilize opposite hand and foot methods ever since I first saw it in your videos. It was really cool to see the side by side comparison here. Thank you!

I was teaching this to a climber on a V3 just this morning! Very well explained

wow this was so helpful! I've struggled with this concept for a while and couldnt find a clear video of explaining it until now. Thank you!

I 100% needed to see this. I was working on a problem recently that could have benefitted from this.

I took a year off from climbing during the pandemic. This is helping me restart with a mind for better technique. Thank you.

This seems like a basic stuff, and to be honest I was implementing it instinctively in my climbs, but understanding what is going on and making sane decisions will no doubt improve me as a climber. Thank you kind sir.

Ha, was confused as to why you were teaching opposite of what I’m focused on, but it came down to semantics. Reaching with the hand on the side of the foot supporting is essentially the same, though certainly the different way of looking at it may result in variation of what is assimilated. Cheers, Daniel

Seriously? There are 3 people who didn’t like this ? I’m giving my thumbs down to them! Great video, totally makes sense. Thank you so much.

Unrelated, but please do a video on what/how you eat to stay lean for climbing.

Maybe at 1:22 you could optimize it even further by placing your left foot on the hold to the right (the hold you place your right foot on instead).

what if the starting position forces you to start with both hands and foot on the same sides?

I agree that for developing the ability to do harder climbs Opposite Hand & Foot is best but I find the dynamic catch is more enjoyable overall. If a climb can support me moving dynamically I will probably do it like that.

I think the first/common beta simply doesn't take advantage of flagging/smearing and aims to use the designated holds, forcing a lot of same-side hand-foot moves.

What you're demonstrating is called same-side climbing. Not opposite. It's not about the hand that's staying on the wall (indeed, sometimes you won't have another hand on). It's about the hand that you're going to and the foot that you want on the wall while going for it. Next hold is for your right hand? Right foot should be on the wall. Left hand? Left foot.

This isn't a ubiquitous rule, but basically every climb up to v4 it will almost always apply.
